Michelle Obama quote:

“The truth is, most Americans don’t want much. Folks don’t want the whole pie. Most Americans feel blessed to thrive just a little bit. But that’s out of reach for them.” The truth is, in order to get things like universal health care and revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so someone else can have more.”

We already have a health care program for underprivileged children of parents who earn up to $70,000.00 per year. Plus Medicare, Medicaid, WIC, and others.

As far as education goes.....all children have the opportunity to get a free education.

For me personally, I don't want a piece of somebody else's pie. I want to make my own.

Do you also believe that everyone should make the same salary?

"The truth is, most Americans don’t want much. Folks don’t want the whole pie. Most Americans feel blessed to thrive just a little bit. "

This coming from a woman who's salary is 10 times the average worker's and who got a substantial raise coincidentally immediately after her husband secured a large earmark for her employer. Arrogant, hypocratic elitism at it's finest.

"Let them eat cake".

Sounds like a very good wife who agrees with everything her husband is about.

Mrs. Greg, I support feeding children, educating them, and keeping them healthy. My problem lies with the deadbeat adults who want to sponge off of society like ticks on a dog's back. Most of them want the government to steal for them so that all they have to do is sit at home and receive a check. This country needs a good flea bath.

I agree with the "deadbeat" adults but I think if all children are givin the same opportunity then maybe those children of the "deadbeats"{man I hate that word}may rise above thier upbringing. The children really are the victims.

I also "believe" that very few on welfare are deadbeats, most are single mothers that because of the lack of education and the high cost of childcare can't get out of that rut.

Mrs. Greg, we are all compassionate towards children and think that they always get the raw end of the deal. But society cannot be called upon to take care of kids born to deadbeats. That is the full responsibility of the parents.

If they cannot take care of them, they shouldn't bear children at all.

We have tried all the welfare programs that taxpayer money can buy. Our social programs are breaking the bank. It simply doesn't work. Those deadbeat parents are sitting around the trough like welfare brood mares waiting for the handouts that Michelle Obama is speaking of.

Only personal responsibility will fix it.

Would you prefer the word losers?

What type of lack of education are you talking about? They got in that position because they did not go to college? Or quit H.S.? Many single moms I know of were in the process of getting an education but chose to open their legs instead of their books. The education was there for them they chose to ignore it. They were sitting in the same class along beside the girl that did not get pregnant and did not become a single mom.

Disclaimer: All single moms are not a result of teen pregnancies I realize this.

Mike....are you not raising a child of I presume would be called deadbeat parents{which I commend you very, very highly for}Unfortunaly ,for whatever reason these people are deadbeats{generally speaking not geared to your situation Mike} them ever taking any personal responsibility is very slim.

My DIL took her teaching practicum at an inner city school,she said the parents mostly took no responsibility for anything education or social related,it was up to the teachers to take that responsibility and give them{at least try} the best education as they can.She had to fight to get books and other teaching supplies for this school because of the lack of funding,and of course lack of fund raising which so many parents take the responsibility for now a days{I'm talking my country not sure if you all have to fund raise like our schools do}

Any word that degrades a person I don't like A-plus.

To be honest I don't even think the single moms on welfare are largly from the teen pregnancy area. Because even if "our" child does have that happen most of us parents will step up and help our children make the most of thier lives and thier babies lives. I "think" most of those single moms are products of marriages gone bad, abuse of any kind often involved. I know education in our country is getting to be outragous and only the foreign students that get way cheaper schooling can afford it :?

And YES some are just plain lazy and don't want to work and thinks society owes them a living but man I'd like to think if equal educatin only helps a handful of those children of "deadbeats" that five more then would have been helped without it.

I'm speaking generally from both our countries points of views, this is NOT an attack on the US as we have as many if not more problams with this as you'all do.

Good point OT

Yes I am. And I might add that I am not receiving any government assistance for doing so. I am furnishing health care and will send to a private school when the time comes. Out of my own pocket.........

Those parents are deadbeats and should have never had this child but we're giving her everything she needs.

We are hoping we can break the cycle.

Exellent point Mike, I am all for taking care of the children of this country. There is not a self respecting Republican that is not, The programs are there to take care of the kids. I already have free health care, We are self employed and have blue cross insurance and all the premiums are deducted off our taxes. Hell we can even deduct mileage on our vehicles to go to the Doctor.
A year and a half ago the dems took over the majority running on the platform of lower gas prices and ending the war in Iraq. HMMM Gas is almost a buck higher and there are more troops over there now than two years ago. If I was a democrat I would be pizzed off.

I am a year into raising one myself. It has its rewards and I am very attached to the little booger.

The raw end of the deal Mike speaks of only makes my blood boil even more. We fork out the extra nickels to feed those babies and then the parents steal it from them. The kids don't get properly fed. The money is for them but the parents use it for themselves. The more kids they have the better.

We have a foster home right here in our neighborhood. The parents lock the kids out by day, make the 13 year old girl do all the laundry, cooking and cleaning, for the other 9 kids.

Why would someone bother to make pie in the first damn place if it's going to be taken away from them? Right now the government is getting ready to send out tax refunds to stimulate the economy.....but the libs can't get it through their thick heads that raising taxes will do just the opposite. They just want to make sure that those that don't produce have all of the benefits of those that do, and soon we have less and less producers. They've already tried all of these social experiments on reservations with very poor outcomes.

What's funny to me is that the DEMs don't believe in reducing taxes but jumped all over the refund idea.

Which is in all reality the same exact thing. Giving us back some tax money
