“Suicide Bomb” Republicans
By Tim Dunkin Thursday, September 16, 2010
Probably the one single thing that makes Islamic terrorism more disgusting and more cowardly than any other kind is their use of “suicide bombs.” This tactic does not seek to win a battle or to capture an objective. It does not advance the military capacity of a cause, nor does it seek to damage the military capabilities of an enemy. Instead, it is a craven method designed to attack civilians, undermine the morale of non-combatants, to sow as much random death and destruction as possible against innocent people, and to spitefully destroy what other people have worked hard to build. It is the resort of someone who cannot win in a standup fight.
Unfortunately, over the past year, we see the political equivalent of this sort of tactic being used in the realm of our elections, by what I have termed, “suicide bomb Republicans.” What is a suicide bomb Republican? He or she is a RINO who, having lost an election or otherwise proven unable to stand against a conservative in a primary, chooses to do everything in his or her power to detonate the chances their own Party’s conservative candidate to win against the liberal Democrat in the ensuing contest. In doing so, the RINO saps the strength of their Party, and helps to do great damage to the people of this country as a whole, as they try to enable liberal Democrats to win elections, allowing the socialists to continue to make policy decisions that are ruining us all. Unable to win in a stand-up fight, the suicide bomb RINO has opted to kill their own Party’s chances of victory, like some sort of perverse, anti-conservative IED sitting by the roadside.
Contrary to what some third partyists and others who have created a cottage industry out of attacking all Republicans may think, most Republicans are conservative. The rank-and-file of the GOP wants conservative candidates, but several years of disappointment and apathy allowed the Rockefellerian go-along-to-get-along types to cement their hold on the Party apparatus. These “leaders” in the GOP, however, could really care less about the Republican Party. They are in it for their own power and advancement, and when “insurgent” conservatives (how can you be an “insurgent” when you are merely taking what is rightfully yours?) threaten this, we see that the suicide bomb Republican would rather destroy the Party than let someone else have it. When push comes to shove, they will blast away at the very thing they sought to rule.
The old canard that these RINOs are “putting Party above principle” is far from being true. They are putting their own agenda above BOTH Party and principle. And they would rather defame, undermine, and destroy a fellow Republican who is a conservative, then let that person win an election. Remember how the RINOs always quoted “Reagan’s 11th commandment” to us whenever a RINO was selected, and how we conservatives were supposed to just lump it and rally ‘round the banner for the Party candidate? How come this standard doesn’t apply to the RINOs? Instead, they feel perfectly free to blow us up, and our chances of making the changes that the American people want along with it.
Talk about the “Taliban wing of the Republican Party.”
This started in earnest last year, in the special election race to see who would fill the vacant seat in the NY-23 congressional district. Dede Scozzafava was hand-picked by a few “moderate” GOP operatives in “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” closed-door meetings. The district’s Republican rank-and-file had no say in it. Well, Dede Scozzafava was a queen RINO, so far to the Left that she actually made the Democrat Bill Owens look conservative on a lot of things. The Republican rank-and-file didn’t like this much, so they began to rally around Doug Hoffman, a conservative who would probably have been on the GOP ticket, had the GOP “leaders” bothered to have a primary pitting him against Scozzafava. Well, as we all remember, Hoffman pretty much took all of Scozzafava’s support – support than never really belongs to her in the first place, but which she only had by default. She actually withdrew from the race because the bottom dropped out on here.
What some may not remember, however, is her subsequent behavior. Instead of rallying behind Hoffman, her fellow Republican, she endorsed Bill Owens in the race, officially threw her support to him, and even campaigned for him. In doing so, she might well have swung a couple of thousands votes to him that, if they had remained with Hoffman, would have put him over the top and caused this seat to be conservatively represented today. As it stands, Owen has consistently voted with the Obama/Reid/Pelosi agenda – thanks to Dede Scozzafava’s suicide bombing of Doug Hoffman’s campaign.
Next up – Florida.
It certainly hasn’t ended there, however. Next up – Florida. Charlie “Chargin’ RINO” Crist thought he had it all locked up – he was going to be the GOP’s nominee for the Senate race, which would have virtually guaranteed him the seat. Then, however, along came Marco Rubio – a solid conservative who came from out of nowhere and took the lead in the primary race – winning the standup fight, so to speak. Rubio was the clear choice of most Florida Republicans who were not hooked up into the corrupt Florida state Party machine, which had largely supported Crist. How did Crist respond to the evident will of his fellow Republicans?
You guessed it – electoral IED. If he couldn’t have the nomination, he was going to split the Republican vote and make sure that the guy who did would go down in flames in the general. If he couldn’t have it, he was going to make it worthless to have. Fortunately, his plan appears to be failing, as practically every poll from over the last month has Rubio leading handily in this three-way race. Apparently Charlie forgot to wire the detonator caps correctly.
In Utah, we saw another RINO take a dive. Bob Bennett, one of the most notorious Republican Senators for working with the Democrats, reaching across the aisle so to speak, ended up not even being renominated for his seat by a convention of his own Party. Clearly, Utah Republicans were tired of him, and decided he needed to retire. In the ensuing primary between Tea Party-backed candidate Mike Lee and Tim Bridgewater, who was backed by the establishment and by Bennett, Lee won.
The TEApublicans won another victory. So what did Bennett do? Did he accept the choice made by the rank-and-file, and get on board with rallying ‘round the banner for victory in November? Nope. He refused to endorse and support Lee, and then began making all the talk show circuits, loudly complaining about how conservatives like Lee were “destroying” the Party and “ruining” everything. In doing so, he hoped to destroy Lee’s credibility and chances of winning against the Democrats. Utah being what it is, this is not going to work, of course, but it’s a shame that Bennett even decided to try.
What a strange and nasty little saga Murkowski has created in Alaska.
What about Alaska? Here, again, we see a conservative winning fair and square in a classic primary battle that pitted Tea Party-supported Joe Miller against Lisa Murkowski, who apparently believes herself to be the crown princess and heir-apparent of this Senate seat. What a strange and nasty little saga Murkowski has created in Alaska. After losing the primary, she likewise hit the circuits to slam conservatives and the Tea Parties as “divisive forces” who were “destroying the Party.” All the while, she was flitting from one third party to another, trying to convince them to drop their current candidate and let her run in his place – a possibility made legal by provisions of Alaskan electoral law. She began to RINOify herself even more in an attempt to convince the Libertarians that she was really one of them – sure, she’s always been for legalizing pot and stuff like that.
Even the LP told her to take a hike, so now, she is “weighing” whether she wants to run on a write-in campaign. The odds that she would win a write-in campaign are virtually nil. All it would accomplish would be to siphon just enough votes away from Miller to hand this close race to Miller’s Democrat opponent. Which is Murkoswki’s whole purpose. If she can’t have the seat, then no Republican can. She’d rather have a left-wing Democrat winning than a non-RINO Republican. Like a nail bomb going off in a crowded marketplace, Murkowski threatens to shred the Republican Party’s chance to put a real conservative into the Senate from Alaska.
Most recently, we see suicide bomb Republicans going after the conservative, rank-and-file chosen candidate in Delaware, where Christine O’Donnell overturned politician-for-life RINO Mike Castle in the primary. Once again, she won the stand up fight fairly. What was Castle’s response? It was to refuse to endorse her, to run her down publically after the election, and to try to undercut her already slim chances of winning this race. What is even more sickening is that in this particular case, it isn’t just Castle who is doing the exploding. The establishment Party apparatus is coming out in full force to hijack this race and fly O’Donnell’s election bid into the ground. The night of the primary, after it was clear O’Donnell had won, we saw Karl Rove going on national TV, trashing his own Party’s Senate nominee. Apparently, “The Architect” is more into tearing things down than in building them these days. It was a truly sickening display by an obviously angry, bitter little man.
Not only Rove, but the National Republican Senatorial Committee headed by John Cornyn (RINO-TX) got into the act. Word “got around” (as things purposefully leaked tend to do) that the NRSC wasn’t going to be supporting or donating funds to O’Donnell’s campaign – a clearly spiteful and petty act by a bunch of Party establishment insiders angry that their chosen RINO lost to the people’s choice. At least in this case, the NRSC - which has had a little trouble getting donations these days, for some odd reason – backed down, presumably after getting an earful from the GOP’s conservative base nationwide, and donated the maximum to O’Donnell. Not that it was really needed. In the two days since the primary, O’Donnell has collected nearly a million dollars in donations from conservative “small people” all over the nation.
Oh, and to top it all off, it appears that the official website of the Delaware Republican Party lists Mike Castle as the Party nominee, and still has a whole slue of anti-O’Donnell articles posted. Get over it, guys. Your fellow lost. Yet, apparently the establishment big boys would rather undercut O’Donnell than rally ‘round the banner. Personally, I don’t believe that O’Donnell stands much of a chance in November, due to how bluish Delaware is, but nevertheless, she does have a chance, and we should fight to see her elected with all the strength we have. Having a bunch of RINO sappers undercutting her campaign on nationwide TV and on the Party’s own website makes this job a whole lot more difficult.
People have seen the bald face of liberalism, and they don’t like it one bit.
Conservatism is resurging. People have seen the bald face of liberalism, and they don’t like it one bit. The GOP is being TEApublicanized – conservatives are taking back our rightful place at the helm of the Party. Instead of getting on board and working together – as they’ve always squawked at us to do – the RINOs have decided to toss a grenade into the works and sabotage anything we might try to accomplish. I, for one, think that it’s time to send the RINOs packing, to drive them out root and branch from the Party. They do no good, and they have proven that the only thing they can be counted is to stab us in the backs when things don’t go their way.
We’re better off without the RINOs, bar none. I’d gladly trade every last RINO in the Republican Party for all of the conservative Independents and third partyists who have left the GOP over the past decade because of its leftward tilt. In November, we have hurdles to jump, but we can continue the TEApublicanization of the Republican Party. But we’ll need to make sure that no more RINOs get past our checkpoints.
