Sourdough Pancakes

Reading Cowgurls post got me to thinking about sourdough pancakes...So I just made me some for dinner...

Used to have a crock of starter and both grandma and I cooked sourdoughs a lot- but since kids all gone and we don't cook big breakfasts that often anymore- don't have...

But how many have ever made beer sourdough pancakes? Whenever I get a craving now I just take some pancake mix- and instead of water use beer...Not as good as the real thing, but not bad...Best if the beer is warm and left open for awhile - and best if the batter is mixed the nite before and left to set overnite- with a little more out of the beer can added in the morning to make batter runny-- but good anyway you do it...

I used to help cook at the Lions sourdough pancake breakfast and thats the only thing we did to make our "sourdoughs"...

Grandkids have watched me make them enough that they now ask for Grandpa's "beer pancakes"....

Haymaker always wanted to make those sourdough/beer pancakes but he kept drinking the Beer,

That used to be the problem with the cooks at the Lions breakfasts-- by noon when they quit cooking most were already well oiled...

OT, I'll have to give this one a try.... it sure works on the same principle!!

I have my sourdough crock in the fridge now, but I made english muffins with it for the first time a couple weeks ago and mmmmmmmm.

So there are actually two things beer is good for.....   ......hmmmmmmmmmmm

Bovine water and pancakes!

We used to do a lot of sourdough when we first got married, when we moved to town, though.......it kinda got left back in the wilderness. Hubby is the good sourdough cook in the family, and when he was working all the time, we had several batches of starter, go bad just because it didn't get used.

Kinda like the Amish Friendship Bread starter that I need to toss out now........

Tried your recipe this morning OT,not all bad,a lil pan cake mix & Lone star, even I can fix that..............good luck

Thanks Haymaker-- I've used a bunch of different brand beers- don't see much difference-- just something to give it that fermented taste like the sour dough...Usually use whatever odd brands that are left over from branding......

Some like it some don't -- Grandkids love my "beer pannycakes"- but a couple of my daughters don't like them- as I usually make the batter real runny, which makes thin pancakes that stick to your ribs all day- while they prefer a fluffier one...
