OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - South Dakota's business conditions index rose last month. That's according to a survey compiled by a Creighton University business professor.
The index ranges between 0 and 100, and an index greater than 50 indicates an expanding economy over the next three to six months. South Dakota's overall index rose in January -- to 57.5 from 53.5 in December. The highest sector were new orders and inventories.
Creighton economics professor Ernie Goss says South Dakota's economy is likely to continue to expand but at a slower pace. He says January reports were healthy for durable-goods producers, except for computer and electronic manufacturers, and food processors.
