Mike, thanks for posting the link to LSS. Very quickly going through some of the material, it is apparent that govt is giving our tax money to LSS for refugee work. Whether that is reimbursement for what they spend on refugee resettlement, or LSS making money for doing it isn't totally clear to me (my problem with transposing numbers is frustrating and makes me hate trying to do anything with numbers!).groups have been helping to re-settle refugees (true refugees of WWI and WWII originally, and continuing on with refugees from all over the world due to bad governments and aggressive groups abusing people.
The difference, imo, between then and now, and which LSS seems to ignore, is that earlier true refugees were grateful and eager to adopt USA ways when we helped them. Today, many of them obviously are NOT going to adopt our rules, but will attempt to turn the USA into ISIS, and in some cases, simply continue their 'old country' ways rather than becoming true and appreciative productive citizens of the USA.
Other thoughts from my quick search of the LSS website is that the Lutheran organization probably still holds altruistic and faith based ideas of saving all those people from an awful existence, even death at the hands of evil.......or simply places where there isn't an economic base to support all the poor people they have produced. OTH, some people, even in such faith based groups, can and do become somewhat addicted to money and power and will convince themselves that 'it is for the good of the people' to continue their 'mandate' with other peoples' money, even government money along with the donations they receive from the faithful. I do not believe that is proper use of our tax money.
Yet, I do recall that several areas of SD where there were no doctors for many miles that we got doctors from Latvia and other countries affected by that immigration program and they were wonderful for our communities, serving us well and being great citizens. We all benefitted from those people becoming US citizens when they had no homes left after WWII. I have no problem with that type of immigration, when people coming here genuinely want to become citizens of our country, as opposed to trying to turn this country into what they left! Which I do believe is a serious problem with too many of todays' immigrants. They should have to swear loyalty to the USA and become tax paying citizens.
