So much for their food safety record. They would rather spend it on animal ID and age verification programs.

Yep things customers really want.

They want an animal ID program that stops at the packers? I think you've got the same problem SH has - the need to be contrary regardless if it requires you to make rediculous statements.

Figure it out Mike, Japan wants age verified. It's tough to age verify without ID.

To the contrary Jason. The USDA came out with their high falutin method of age verification showing the Japs we didn't need to ID our cattle. Remember?

Dentition and Ossification would save the day. Billions of dollars later..........

Better yet, we could have been shipping to the Japs for two years now. Just break out the test kits.............................................

There are already many programs that will allow the Japanese to source all the age verified they want- even Porkers group says they can do it...But until they offer the incentive to do it- few will--Unless you live in a Socialist country where the government mandates it, so the Packers, retailers, consumers don't have to pay these incentives....

Canada is sending beef to Japan but could send a lot more if more was age verified.

Premiums are being offered and paid by the packers, but numbers are still below capacity. Some things take time.

US producers are so afraid of the gov't knowing anything about them they need to be forced into a position where they will do something in their own best interest.

I disagree Jason... If the cash incentive were there you would have no problem with finding all the US cattle you wanted with an eartag and birthdate...But right now it isn't there......Why aren't all Canadians supplying birthdates- eh :???: ....

And as long as Johanns and USDA has said if voluntary isn't working by 2009 they will make it Mandatory- there is no incentive for the Packers/Walmarts/MacDonalds to pay much incentive....They can just wait until their buddies in government mandate it and then pay no incentive bonus's......Either the producer does it and pays for it or he becomes a criminal...... :(
