Activist Spokesman Urges Murder of Slaughterhouse Workers and Poultry Executives
ARLINGTON, VA - On 60 Minutes, television's highest rated news program, Dr. Jerry Vlasak who claims to be a practicing trauma surgeon in southern California, advocated for the murder of slaughterhouse workers and poultry company executives. Vlasak has been quoted as saying, ''I think for five lives, ten lives, 15 human lives, we could save a million, two million, ten million nonhuman lives,'' about medical researchers at a 2003 animal rights conference.

When reporter Ed Bradley asked Vlasak who he considers to be ''fair game'' for animal rights extremists, Vlasak responded, ''Animal researchers, slaughterhouse workers, the head of the corporation that slaughters hundreds of millions of chickens every single year for the taste of their flesh.''

When Bradley inquired about bombs--both incendiary and shrapnel-packed--that were used by extremists in California and Colorado, including one that had a primary explosion and then a secondary explosion designed to injure police, firemen and other emergency responders, Vlasak replied, ''I think it's sort off disingenuous to say 'Well, we can burn down buildings. But we can't use explosives. Or we can use explosives. But we can't do anything that might harm a person.' I think what we have to do is look at the big picture. We have to look at what works.''

The 60 Minutes report also featured Rod Coronado, who claims to be a former Animal Liberation Front (ALF) leader, widely-credited with introducing arson to the ''cause.'' When Coronado's defense, funded by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) failed, he spent four years in prison for setting six fires, including one at Michigan State University. Coronado, who ''just happened'' to have a speaking engagement in San Diego after a firebomb caused over $15 million in damage to a condominium complex, claimed that ''arson has become a necessary tool.''

The Animal Agriculture Alliance (Alliance) deplores the extremist rhetoric of these people and condemns the dangerous tactics they promote. The Alliance urges those involved in animal agriculture--especially poultry company executives and those involved in the security and management of processing facilities--to participate in the fifth session of the popular course Practical Anti-Terrorism Training for Food, Agricultural and Animal Industries: A Common Sense Approach to Preventing Attacks. The course is conducted by the Law Enforcement Academic Research Network, Inc. (LEARN) and will be held January 9-11, 2006 in San Antonio, Texas. Registration is available online at www.learninc.us.

For more information on the course, contact Philip Lobo at the Alliance, telephone (703) 562-5160, e-mail [email protected] or LEARN at telephone (901) 219-9917, e-mail [email protected]. All registrations must be submitted in advance of the course.

The Alliance is a non-profit organization that supports animal agriculture by communicating the important role of animal agriculture along with reliable science-based information on animal welfare. LEARN's antiterrorism training team prepares those in both public and private sectors to protect critical infrastructures from internal and external threats.

What none of these wackos bother to ask themselves is: what the hell would happen to all the cattle, sheep, chickens, etc. currently being raised for meat if vegetarianism were the law of the land? Do they think people would just raise them for fun of it? They need to be killed so they can live, as callous as that sounds.

how terrifying that a DOCTOR would advocate murder.....sounds like something to be looked into a little further!! What ever happened to the oath he took to "do no harm"??? :???: :???: :???: :???:

60 Minutes video on extreme activists available

November 16, 2005

The video clip of Sunday's 60 Minute special report on eco-terrorists is now available for viewing on the State Extranet (Issues Response>Activist Information). The show transcript is also available online at http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/11/10/60minutes/main1036067.shtml. As we reported last week, the show aired Sunday night and featured interviews with convicted arsonist and PETA spokesperson Rodney Coronado, Animal Defense League director Jerry Vlasik and FBI counter-terrorism experts. During the program, the FBI's John Lewis said law enforcement is aware of more than 1,000 acts of violence committed by extreme activists, resulting in more than 100 million in damages. According to this program, many believe the movement is ratcheting up its efforts. For example, Jerry Vlasik told CBS correspondent Ed Bradley that anybody who tortures animals for a living or profit is a target, including slaughterhouse workers.
