Listened to the speech--Was not that impressed with GW...I thought it was one of his lowest quality speeches given...Like one of the FOX talking heads said he not only looked like a Lame Duck President but looked crippled- little enthusiam....

I did like some of the proposals- but it seems like after hearing about the same thing for 5 years, and nothing happening it starts getting old....

I think Rep Denny Rehberg summed it up best....

ON THE SPEECH:
Rep. Denny Rehberg, R-Mont.: "The president's address focused on many important themes, but over the past several years many of these themes have lacked action. It's time for the president and Congress to be more accountable to the American people by not merely promoting reform, but also producing results. To quote an old advertisement, Americans want to know: 'Where's the beef?'... In the coming months, the president and Congress need to be accountable for implementing change and not just talking about it."

I kind of liked this proposal for insurance...Not sure if we should be cutting any taxes now when we're going further in debt every day- but it would be nice to my pocketbook...

But according to the Dems and the news programs talking heads its DOA...Stands a less than 0 chance of getting anywhere.....

Tonight, I propose two new initiatives to help more Americans afford their own insurance. First, I propose a standard tax deduction for health insurance that will be like the standard tax deduction for dependents. Families with health insurance will pay no income or payroll taxes on $15,000 of their income. Single Americans with health insurance will pay no income or payroll taxes on $7,500 of their income. With this reform, more than 100 million men, women, and children who are now covered by employer-provided insurance will benefit from lower tax bills.

At the same time, this reform will level the playing field for those who do not get health insurance through their job. For Americans who now purchase health insurance on their own, my proposal would mean a substantial tax savings - $4,500 for a family of four making $60,000 a year. And for the millions of other Americans who have no health insurance at all, this deduction would help put a basic private health insurance plan within their reach. Changing the tax code is a vital and necessary step to making healthcare affordable for more Americans.

My second proposal is to help the states that are coming up with innovative ways to cover the uninsured. States that make basic private health insurance available to all their citizens should receive federal funds to help them provide this coverage to the poor and the sick. I have asked the Secretary of Health and Human Services to work with Congress to take existing federal funds and use them to create "Affordable Choices" grants. These grants would give our Nation's governors more money and more flexibility to get private health insurance to those most in need.

I agree we have heard most of his talk before and seen little action on the topics but the thing that really aggravates me is that the Dems can't wait to get in line to be critical but not a doggone one of them has a decent alternative plan. Republican of Democrat doesn't really matter, neither has any intention of working together. I think we deserve better but there isn't an original thought in the whole damn Congress. At least Bush is trying to put together a plan of some sort. Anybody can criticize but it takes some effort and smarts to develop a better plan. I'd like to hear that plan be it from Dems or Repubs. We're getting nowhere now and it doesn't appear to me we ever will if we can't find some common ground and work together, afterall we are all Americans. Why can't we put aside the party titles and get something done? Twenty thousand more troops on top of the 130,000 isn't going to make much difference. If we really want to win it lets send a quarter of a million and instill a little discipline over there. If we are the most powerful nation on earth lets act like it and go in a whip their butts and get the hell out. In this way the sacrifices made by all the service people and their families will not have been in vain. I'll probably hear some opposition but so be it.

i heard this morning on national tv that 70 something percent of those polled felt bush was heading down the wrong track. but they also felt the dems had no plan what so ever! and most felt that the unwillingness of either party to set down to discuss a workable plan could be blamed on the dems because they only want to discredit the reps in any way they can rather that try to work out a viable solution, kinda like on this forum, the libs wont listen so the reps have to repeat it over and over and there for nothing is accomplished.
take note of who is saying this :D :D :D :D

Not much argument from me- Red Barn...Get in, Get it done now with whatever it takes, and get the hell out.....

Problem is we have few true statesmen left- most are all just politicians, playing for their own gain....Sickening last night watching all those camera seeking egotists sitting on an aisle seat so they could get their second on TV schmoozing up to the President while he walked down the aisle....Then 5 minutes later they're telling the press what an idiot evil doer he is......

So we can not condemn a movie with a 12 year old being raped with out seeing it, but you can condemn what the President is trying to do with out even listening to him?

You are one of those that really want failure in Iraq aren't you?

Do you want President Bush's plan to succeed?

You have not heard his new plan! Maybe he made some changes that you will now support?

Do you hope his new plan is successful in Iraq?

This is about his 16th ' new plan'.

He's over, he should be impeached and get someone in there that can read and understand what the people, even though they didn't elect him, want & NOT what he and him alone wants.

He works for the people, he's on payroll like ever one else!!

Guess I missed the other 14 or so plans he had, I always thought he was staying the course not changing plans ever 3 months or so as he would if he had 16 other plans.

Do you hope his new plan is successful in Iraq?

We must make our border more secure by sending more border patrol agents there and then we will release the pressure on the border????? Does this even make sense? And the really sad part is that the administration and Congress have a good chance of passing a basically amnesty policy for all ILLEGAlS! Come on some strong INDEPENDENT enter the race for President PLEASE!

Unfortunately, it is not the role of Congress to make a plan. It is the CNC's role to make a plan and for Congress to approve or disapprove it. Neither the Dems nor Repubs in Congress should or could make a plan to wage war. Eeets not their yob man!

I have a better plan for health insurance, social security, wages and cost of fuel.

1. ALL politicians MUST pay their own health insurance
2. ALL politicians MUST pay into social security and their pensions would be removed.
3. ALL politicians WOULD be paid minimum wage
4. ALL politicians WOULD be forced to pay for their own fuel, airline tickets, travel expenses and meals EVERY day of the year.

I believe if these plans were implemented, we would SOON see some major changes. 8)

Does not matter what the plan is, I asked if you hope it succeeds. That is sad that you do not wish for us to succeed in Iraq. That you hate Bush so much that you wont us to fail just because he is the one that came up with the plan and is in charge. That is un American and a bad person. I could care less who is in charge or what plan it is, I want to see America win at all times!

His girls are not in the service because THEY do not want to be! It is a free country for now, until you guys get your way. You ever heard of Volunteer Army?
