Our local land trust hosted the WSGALT (Wyo Stock Growers Agricultural Land Trust) Friday night. There were people from every corner of the State and a couple some from Idaho, Colorado, and Montana too. Guest speaker was John Turner, owns the triangle X ranch inside Teton Park and been in the interior department in DC for the last 16 years. Plus we listen and danced to the Snake River Band, had an art sale and vested with allot of people.
One comment we got from some that had not been in the valley for years was that the lent trust is too late for our valley. Then another said all we had to do to triple production on a 100 acres was spit it into 40's to which I told them that is what we call horse ghettos....
42% of Wyoming is privately owned with 90% of that land in Agriculture.
50% of winter habitat for big game animals in on private land.
Up to 2.6 million acres are threatened by development and other uses.
WSGALT holds 16 easements on 21,000 acres and working on an additional 45,000 at this time.
After a 1/2 inch of rain Saturday morning and the snow up high put a stop to the days haying. Sue and I went to the Green River Valley Land Trust picnic.
