Signs that the stimulus is upon us now

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - At least some of Pennsylvania's $1 billion in federal stimulus funding is being spent on road signs advertising the work the funding is paying for.
PennDOT says it will spend about $60,000 on 30 road signs featuring the logo of the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

PennDOT spokesman Steve Chizmar says the department of transportation will put the signs at only the most visible projects around the state.

Chizmar says the signs help show the public where the stimulus money is being spent in the state.

Yep- and I've been reading those types of signs- advising how much was federal funding and how much state funding and how much local funding- on Highway projects for over 40 years... I think most used to start "Your Transportation Funds at Work for You" or something like that..

Just because it has always been done dont make it right.
Do you not agree its a waste of money we DONT HAVE?
Hail I want one of the all american canners ..its only $300 but I had to settle for a $100 well $80 with sons discount, since I didnt have the money to spend.
Why do we accept government spending beyond what they have?

YEP- you're probably right....We shouldn't let folks know how much of their taxpayer money is going into these projects- or how its being spent- or who is spending it ....

If you drive by a project, you know what they're doing and who is spending. The question is HOW THE HELL ARE WE GOING TO PAY FOR IT?

I'm not sure if you noticed or not OT, but times are not that great.

$2000 per road sign, is a little much. What's the purpose, campaigning.

Why should the stimulus funds finance campaiging for either party?

If you want to know, fo to recovery.gov, it's costing enough to run.

The waste is unbelievable, $2000/sign and then how many millions for duplication of the website?

It is a WASTE to make the sign the locals already know and why do I need to know. I can find out online if it really matters to me.

So how come Presidents and administrations have thought for 40+ years it was important to tell folks how these individual road projects were being funded?...And for the taxpayers to know what percentage of which fund was paying for it... :???:

Its posted on here like it is something specific to the Stimulus bill- when it has been being done for years.... I know I've read enough of them while sitting at a flagman waiting for a convoy vehicle....

It's not specific to the Stimulus program.

It's still a waste of money.

Who cares who pays for it. It's either State/Federal, ultimately the Taxpayers fund it.

Why should they pay $2000/sign to let them know that they payed for it?

My biggest concern is the number of people that don't realize we are now in the 21st century- and what we did in the 1800's and 1900's won't work anymore.....

What you trying to say- we should have a video screen on the side of the highway advising folks of how their taxes are being spent rather than an old painted green and white road sign :???:

Lets see if you as brave as Badax......he was showing how much of a hypocrite you are being .................
So you agree with wasting $2000 per sign to say ...Gotta thank the government for giving us this road. that we paid for.........

No  in 2009 we have something called the internet. On that internet there is a government website that cost millions to design and run and according to Obama it was set up so anyone that wants to keep track of government spending can look on the website and it is all right there. So tell us Oldtimer what do you need to use 1970's tec. when we have 2009 tec? :?

I don't need to- and could care less if they put up the signs....But there is still a rather large portion of the population that don't use computers or the the internet (Remember your Chosen Champion- McCain)
The funny thing is they didn't put up the signs- then you'd be bellyaching about lack of transparency or something..... You're gonna whine either way :?

Who else pays for road construction or repairs?

Unless it is a toll highway, most people know the government is providing the funds.

Are you trying to say the American Public are stupid?

The reason McCain doesn't use a computer is because of injuries suffered at the hands of Uncle Ho while a POW.   In no way is the man stupid, as your little innuendo suggests. A man who can fly fighter jets has something on the ball.
