CNN) -- The U.S. Senate has given final approval to a $787 billion economic-stimulus package backed by President Obama, with Democratic Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown returning to the Capitol from his mother's wake to cast the 60th and deciding vote in favor of it.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, here with Rep. Steny Hoyer, delayed the House vote until Friday.

The voting was held open for Brown, who cast his vote at 10:45 p.m.

Voting began Friday night on the stimulus package that passed the House of Representatives earlier in the day by a 246-183 vote.

You should be really proud the 1100 page bill was released at 11 oclock last night and it passes both houses with 24 hours. Want to bet how many of your elected officials actually read it Oldtimer? my bet is NONE. Now will Obama put it up on his website for five days so US citizens can comment on it or will he break another promise to the voters and sign it by Monday. I bet he'll break his promise and sign it without reading it to see what he is signing.

Quoth President Obama: "It's a little hard for me to take criticism from folks about this recovery package, after they've presided over a doubling of the national debt. I'm not sure they have a lot of credibility when it comes to fiscal responsibility."

How many of your precious conservatives/Republicans read any of Bush drunken sailor spending bills before they rubberstamped them...

Kind of reminds me of how Foreclosure Phil Gramm stuck the bill that contained the Enron Loophole- and helped bankrupt our economy now- into a must pass omnibus budget bill at midnite- and told Congressmen "trust me"... Nobody read it....

Almost none of these bills are read by Congressmen-who get their aides to go thru them- or by the general public....The yearly budget bill is bigger than a set of encyclopedias- and the Congressmen have to trust each others committees....

At least the principles and ideas of this bill have been worked on and debated since back in September- before the election...

And guess what Tam- after that debate- Repubs and Bushalikes got their walking papers because the American people have lost trust and faith with them....

This coming from the guy who promised to "surgically cut the budget" while campaigning, chided bush for not balancing the budget, and then once elected flopped out the biggest pork-laden spending bill the world has ever seen? What a lying hypocrite this this clown is!

Is this the Change you voted for Oldtimer? Pass a 800 billion dollar bill without so much as looking at it to see what is in it.
Is this the Change you voted for? A president that lies to you everytime he opens his mouth.
What about the promise of open and transparent what happen to that campaign promise what is open or transparent about how this bill was drafted or passed?
What about the five day grace on bills so the public can see the final wording before they are signed?
What about honesty? there is no pork BULL
Every promise Obama made has gone out the damn window and you could care less as you are so blinded by hate for Bush you refuse to see what is going on right under your nose. I feel sorry for you Oldtimer No I take that back I feel sorry for your grandchildren because they are the ones that are going to be cashing that check you and your buddies down at the waterhole will get from Obama. So why don't you at least buy them a nice toy so when they are old and gray like you are now they can say This is what I'm still paying for. Have another :drink: Oldtimer and say thanks to your grandchildren.  Change

Yep- At least this money is going to build American infrastructure- and American Jobs and American Business and not to a sandpit across the world to build Iraqi infrastructure, Iraqi/Yemeni/Arab Jobs, and Iraqi/Yemeni/Arab business...

Big Difference....Why do you think the Dems kicked Arse in 06 and 08- and sent the Repubs that didn't resign in shame before the election packing.. :???:
This is just part of the George W Bush Bust Legacy.....

I couldn't write the above sentence with a straight face and I fail to see how anyone could..

Nancy and Harry pulled E-Verify out of the Bill and in essence said, "come on in Meskins"!!!

The infrastructure part is a joke too. A BIG percentage of those jobs must be "shovel-ready", or just be paving, concreting, etc. Not permament, but short time jobs.

I guess OT doesn't realize that the Dems had control of the very same congress that was financing the building of infrastructure in the sandpit. It's sooooo much easier to ignore the facts and blame somebody else in a liberal's world.

How I interpret OT's response to Tam is that he's fine with Obama running on a platform of lies and continueing that pattern of lying in the White House. The only thing that matters is that his name isn't George Bush. Obama can pull a Nero, and as long as it's him playing the fiddle, everything is just kosher.

OT, you used to have some common sense. Now you're to good government what Scott Huber is to the cattle industry.

Dems only had control of Congress 2 of the 8 years that GW was blowing money everywhere except in America- and from what I've seen since they took control they started questioning and holding hearings on where that money went- something the Repubs didn't do EVER- just rubberstamping...And they asked Condi Rice how you lose $25 Billion in Iraq and have no idea where it went-- and how you give Billions $ to a firm thats supposed to train Iraqi police- that never showed up and doesn't exist....Or how you hire a company that subcontracts to a foreign company that subcontracts to another foreign company (each at Billions $ profit ) to build barracks for the troops that doesn't even have licensed electricians and are electrocuting US troops..

Obama ran on a platform of rebuilding the US- improving the infrastructure, improving the Health Care System, putting money back into education and science, developing an alternative energy program, bringing back world trust and respect, etc. etc...
And I don't think there was one person that voted for him that didn't know this was going to cost money- Big Money- after all the years we fell behind while GW played in his sand box...

Thats the change I took it that Americans wanted...

We weren't in Iraq for those 8 years, and when the Dems had control when the infrastructure that you speak of was being built, they did nothing but flap their jaws. They had Congress, what did they DO?

They should of asked Condi where the money went, and if they didn't get a good answer, they should of came down with action and heads should of rolled. However, you can't tell me that there is a great concern for funds when they grandstand on that 25B, but then don't even read Obama's 800B bill before rubberstamping it. Hypocriticus Maximus.

He also ran on transparancy, changing the way that Washington did business, being financially responsible, bipartisanship, etc.... - and that has turned out to be a heap of steaming road apples. The man LIED to get in power, and he LIED after getting in power. Do you honestly think that a compulsive liar is going to deliver what this country needs?

build American infrastructure-
Like habitat for mice
or Reids high speed train so he can take his grandkids to Disneyland in record time.
What does Pelosi's STD research and Condoms have to do with American infrastructure,
What does Honey Bee insurance have to do with American infrastructure,
What does a new fleet of government cars have to do with American infrastructure,
What does Health care reform have to do with American infrastructure Remember the one Daschle wanted hidden in a emergency bill so it would get passed no questions asked?
Do we need to go on

And are you sure about the american jobs, sounds to me like illegals will be getting more than a few stimulus bucks to send back to their families.

And as far a the legacy I think if you read the New York Times they will have to say the Bank and housing crisis that caused the problem was a legacy from Clinton not Bush. Remember the 1999 NYT article warning of a problem due to CLINTON encouraging Franny and Freddy into sub-prime dealings.

Bush's Legacy should go down in history as taking the War on Terror to terrorist soil. If they want to see things being blown up well let it be their building and homes verses innocent US citizens homes and work places. But I guess you would have rather had him make nice and talk them out of their guns and bombs like Obama thinks he and Hillary can do. I doubt there is enough Koolaid in the world to get a terrorist to unstrap the bombs and stop killing the innocent. Just look at Hamas over 3000 rockets into Israel and they never stopped until they were being blown up themselves when Israel said enough is enough and took it to them with brute force. But don't worry Oldtimer they will regroup and start another battle they can't win, they always do, as they live to KILL. And if Obama tries to play nice with these idiots, the US is going to have a target on their shores again.

Did any of you see Hannity last night when Huckabee apologized to him . Huckabee was on Hannity's show about a week before Obama was swore in and he disagreed with Hannity on how fast Obama would start the change to a Sociallist government. Hannity said it would be as fast as possible. Well Huckabee apologized last night and said he honestly couldn't believe how fast the broken promises started and that Hannity was right the US is looking at a Socialist government thanks to Obama's now apparent agenda. :???:
