June 23, 2015 - MANHATTAN — A woman was slashed with a machete near Bryant Park Tuesday, police said.
It happened about 11:30 a.m. near the iconic greenspace in midtown. Officers received a 911 call of an assault near 42nd Street and Bryant Park, an NYPD spokeswoman said. When they arrived, they found a 31-year-old woman with a slash would to her right arm.
She had just left an afternoon yoga session in the park when the man approached her, striking her without saying a word, a source told PIX11.
The victim was conscious and alert and taken to a hospital where she is listed in stable condition, police said.
A man was taken into custody at the scene and the weapon allegedly used in the attack — a machete — was also recovered, police said.
Charges are pending against the suspected culprit, who police believe is homeless.
