would the ag bill look so bad if we took foodstamps and welfare out of it??

we need SERIOUS limits, and no loopholes. too many guys buying farms every year with the farm program money.

Yep - not just ag but all. They end up only helping the big guys. I think that's what loans are for. Welfare needs eliminated too. I would always help someone that needs it but trading work for pay is better than a handout.

There is an author, Shannon Hayes, who has written "The Gourmet Grassfed Cookbook" and "The Farmer and The Grill", her father was one of the teachers at my first college, she made a comment during one of her talks at a conference that local foods often cost more because you as a taxpayer have already put a down payment on the food you purchase in the grocery store, referring to subsidies that are often given to large farms and less so the small ones.

Good post. And it illustrates perfectly why direct-to-consumer sales must be priced at a significant premium to regular retail prices. The retail prices are based on an underpriced wholesale starting point.
