They say ya can't teach an old dog new tricks, but i guess there's an exception to every rule. I just came in from putting in a cow getting ready to calve. Which is not very exceptional in and of itself. Unless you realize its my 1st successful AI attempt! :D Now when the calf is born with 11 ears or turns out to be a mule, my enthusiasm might be somewhat short lived. But we'll see in a couple hours. I'd appreciate it greatly if some of ya'll would stay up incase I need more help patting myself on the back! Pictures will follow regardless of how the night goes! YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D If it's a bull calf i may get to try my hand at what Nicky and Aaron are doing!

H the first is the best.. I will be up for a while still as I am checking on some heifers that are ready to pop and it is minus 25 right now. Best of luck .. :)

BTW I have retained two of my AI bull calves to be clean up bulls for my gals and have never regretted it for one minute.. :D

Congratulations to the proud father of the 80 pound bull calf. Kinda cool when you think about it. Are you the type that will carry around pictures in you wallet to show everyone? Good luck with the rest of calving, how cold is it there this time of year anyway?

Congrats LH.
It's customary for the proud father at the hospital to give out Cigars.

I guess in the morning you will be handing out STRAWS to the bulls and telling them fill them up boys.

It was ten below last night but is warming up nicely. Amazing how tough the little buggers are! He's doing better than me as I got tangled up in the shadscale brush putting the cow in and went down tweaking my back. Needed help putting on my dang socks this morning! Old age sucks!

But I'll limber up by July. :D If I was a drinking man I'd pour some Crown this morning as a toast to success. The little bull calf is out of a Select Sires bull called Decatur. He is full of vigor and healthy. What more could ya want? :D I'll say it again....YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

The cow wasnt trying to mother up too well last night. I got the calf to suck and left them alone. This morning she loves him! But she is a 2nd calf heifer and a touch flighty. She'll settle down.
