As I was breaking ice today, I got to wondering how many gallons
of water I was throwing out with a pitchfork. It was a 13 foot dia.
tire tank with about 8 inch thick ice. Is currently -13.4 F so will be
thick again tomarrow.

Thats a striking picture of the sundogs. What does it mean?..... colder temps to come? Thats what I always assumed..... and it always seemed to ring true.

You were almost as cold as we were today, just have a lot less snow than we do. Spent about an hour moving snow to get to my heifer calves yesterday, had to do it again today because the wind drifted it all back in again. If we tried to use windmills and tanks like that up here they would freeze solid when the wind quits on these cold nights.

Was looking at some of my cows today in the -10 temps with the sun shining and no wind thinking how much better they looked today than yesterday with -30 windchills and the snow blowing around.

Nice pictures.
