Susanne Atanus, Who Blames Gay Rights For Tornadoes, Wins GOP Nomination For Congress

The Huffington Post | by Samantha Lachman

A Republican candidate who believes that God dictates weather patterns and that tornadoes, autism and dementia are God's punishments for marriage equality and abortion access won the GOP nomination to challenge Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) in the Chicago-area 9th Congressional District.

Susanne Atanus, of Niles, Ill., garnered 54 percent of the vote in her Tuesday win over David Earl Williams III.

"I am not in favor of abortions, I am not in favor of gay rights," Atanus told the Daily Herald, a suburban Chicago newspaper, in January.

She blamed natural disasters and mental disorders on recent advances in LGBT equality and legal abortions.

"God is angry. We are provoking him with abortions and same-sex marriage and civil unions," she said. "Same-sex activity is going to increase AIDS. If it's in our military, it will weaken our military. We need to respect God."

Atanus also reached out to the Windy City Times, an LGBT publication, in an attempt to explain her views.

"Everybody knows that God controls weather," she told the news site in January. "God is super angry," she added. "Gay marriage is not appropriate, and it doesn't look right, and it breeds AIDS."

Joe, you have to get over this gay thing. Not everyone is going to agree with you.

I guess the bigger question is that if you think she is a moron, what does that say about your liberal hero that lost to her?

Gosh Joe, I think people are more worried about alot of things beside the fact that you like boys and it hurts your feelings that everyone else doesn't agree.

You should probably add her to your travel list as well.

So in going thru the stance on the issues of Mr. Williams- what makes you call him a Liberal ? He is about as conservative as any conservative running for office today... Maybe a little Libertarian because he, like I think government should be out of the marriage business... But definitely can't find anything liberal about him...
Or is it the fact he is a black man that makes you call him a liberal :???:

Little joe you might have found the answer- take this gal, get Palins "tongue speaking" Pentacostal minister that likes to beat his wife, and her Kenyan Witch Doctor, throw in the snake worshipper mayor from that berg down south, bring in Christine O'Donnell and some of her old coven, add in Tea Party Todd (Akin) who believes women won't get pregnant when raped unless they enjoyed it, bring in that anti gay extremist leader of the Westboro Baptist Church and chaplain John McTernan both of who want all gays killed, throw in Bachmann just for sh*ts and giggles--- start a big old bon fire and they can all dance around it chanting and have a huge exorcism to save the country of all its problems...

Probably accomplish more than the 112th and 113th Congress combined... :p

Oh I don't think I'm too far off the button... When I see 85 year old southerners like Fred Phelps that call themselves "Southern Democrats'" that's often the same as saying they are rightwing Republicans....Some of the old time ones couldn't bring themselves to switch what they called themselves- even tho their beliefs were much more in line with the rightwing Republican platform... Either way they all are extremist nutcases and dangerous to the country...

The Truth About Republican Racism and the “Southern Strategy”

June 4, 2013 By Allen Clifton

Whenever the topic of racism gets brought up between Democrats and Republicans, there are two facts you’ll almost always hear conservatives use to counter the belief that their party is full of racism:
◾President Abraham Lincoln was a Republican
◾The KKK was largely organized, and populated by, Democrats

And both are facts.

But when someone uses these two items as their defense that the Republican party isn’t loaded with racism, they’re only showing their ignorance about the reality of racism within their party.

It’s true, Southern Democrats were extremely racist. At the same time, Northern “liberal” Democrats and Republicans had already been working together to end discrimination and pushed for ending segregation.

See, in 1948, President Harry Truman made one of the boldest public moves by a Democrat towards Civil Rights for African Americans by creating the President’s Committee on Civil Rights, and ending discrimination in the military. At the Democratic National Convention in 1948 a call was made for civil rights—prompting at least 35 Southern delegates to walk out.

These movements towards civil rights for African Americans spurred a short-lived political party — the States Rights Democratic Party, also known as the “Dixiecrats.” The people who comprised this movement adamantly defended segregation of the races. It was an attempt to keep the “tyrannical Northern liberals” from “destroying the freedom of states’ rights in the South.”

Luckily, this political party only lasted one election. But what this movement really did was recognize the shift of Democrats embracing equality for African Americans and Southern whites strongly opposing any mention of civil rights.

The moves by President Truman sparked the spread of equality in the South and left Southern white Democrats with a feeling that their party was abandoning their racist — and oppressive — system of beliefs.

Over the next decade, more and more Democrats began to embrace equality, passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. And while more African Americans began to vote for Democrats, in the late-1960′s a new Republican strategy was put into place—the “Southern strategy.”

This was a plan was that was first popularized by Richard Nixon.

What the “Southern strategy” essentially does is it identified the fact that African Americans were voting for Democrats, therefore Republicans decided they would make white voters more aware of this fact in hopes of driving the “white vote” towards the Republican party
.

Doubt me? Let’s look at a comment from a 1970′s interview in the New York Times with Richard Nixon’s political strategist:

“From now on, the Republicans are never going to get more than 10 to 20 percent of the Negro vote and they don’t need any more than that…but Republicans would be shortsighted if they weakened enforcement of the Voting Rights Act. The more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans. That’s where the votes are. Without that prodding from the blacks, the whites will backslide into their old comfortable arrangement with the local Democrats.”

Essentially it was the Republican party saying, “Look, blacks are voting for Democrats so you white people need to vote for Republicans—the party that will represent whites and oppose the blacks.”

With this strategy, you saw the official shift of the Republican party from the “party of Lincoln” to the party which embraced white racism towards African Americans to solidify the white vote in the South.

So, yeah, it’s easy to say Lincoln was a Republican and the KKK was largely built by Democrats, but by doing so you only prove your own ignorance of history. You’re ignoring the fact that as Democrats evolved to embrace equality for African Americans, Southern racists were left looking for a new political party — and they found one that not only embraced their racism and bigotry, it sought it out.

And that party they found was the Republican party.

"they all are extremist nutcases and dangerous to the country..."

Ya think?

Look who is in charge now and the danger America is in.

Did you read this?

Sounds to me like Obama is the dangerous one due to him being a wimp and losing ALL respect from other countries. Can't blame that on Republicans. He did it and he's responsible.

Old Fred Phelps (who coincidentally died yesterday) reminds me of some of the radical extremists on this site- with there need to hate ....
He claimed not to be racist or bigoted-said he opposed neo-Nazis and the KKK (has the KKK now gone "don't ask- don't tell? No peeky under the hood? ) :p  ---BUT he blamed gays for being the root of all earthly evil and spoke out proposing even that all gays should be killed...And he didn't limit his hatred to just gays, he was anti semitic, hated Italians as "perverted mobsters" and called Australia the "land of the sodomite damned"

His church referred to Catholic priests as "vampires" and "Draculas" . He hated Hinduism and described India as a country full of idolatry inevitably resulting in a nation full of fags and fag-enablers...

He didn't leave out Muslims or Mormons in his hate spiels either...Mohammed was considered a demon-possessed whoremonger and pedophile who contrived a 300-page work of Satanic fiction: The Quran! Like America's own whoremonger and pedophile wangled his own hokey Book of Mormon!

Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church believed that Barack Obama is the Antichrist and that he forms an unholy trinity with Satan and Pope Benedict XVI, whom they believe is the False Prophet.

In other words Phelps hated almost everything and preached HATE...

To me that is a dangerous extremist nutcase- whichever political label you want to put on him- and would fit well with Ms. Atanus and that group in their chanting and dancing around the pagan poles...

UPDATE (3:55pm ET): Since Illinois has open primaries in which candidates of any party can vote, it is possible that Democratic supporters of Schakowsky attempted to nominate Atanus because they believed she would be an easier candidate to defeat in the general election.

Like I said- I don't care if he was Democrat or Republican or whatever-- he was a nutcase extremist ...

But what did raise my curiosity is why this big a hater- who hates about everything- is also opposed to a hate group like the KKK... Which is why I was waiting for any of you "good old boys of the hooded order" to fill me in on why....
Did the KKK go Don't Ask-Don't Tell (Don't peek under the hood when I drop the soap Billy Bob) :???: We know he hated all gay groups- and came out hating the boy scouts when they allowed gays... Was it the same with the sheet wearers...

Verizon defends decision to offer incest and child themed porn on video-on-demand

LOS ANGELES – Broadband and telecommunications giant Verizon is under fire for defending its decision to provide hard-core porn titles with child and incest themes. The company was included in the 2014 Dirty Dozen List of pornography’s leading facilitators, compiled by Morality in Media (MIM), a national organization that opposes pornography.

According to MIM, lewd titles like “I Banged My Stepdad,” “Mom, Daughter and Me,” and “Pigtail Teens Pounded” are just some of the many offerings featured on Verizon’s FIOS video on-demand service. In a letter to MIM, Verizon’s Associate Director for Advertising and Content Standards John P. Artney defended the company’s choice to provide the content, noting that “consumers today have extraordinary choice in and control over the content available to them across these networks.”
