I'm certain that it will jack up the oil prices again if for no other reason than revenge. But as the congressman who I heard talking about it said, they are making billions in profits! Why do they need tax breaks? If that money actually goes into alternative fuel development and not into the war, it will be good for us in the long run.

They are not paying all of the royalties to us anyway. Alabama has been in litigation for 10+ years for underpayments. I don't believe we've collected a dime although the oil companies have been found guilty numerous times.

A Tax Credit is much different than a Tax Deduction. It's free money.

Neither party is going to do anything to harm the Big Oil companys' profits.
Too many campaign donations.

One thing is for sure, if you increase the operating cost or decrease the profits of a Business they will pass that along to the consumer.

There is nothing stopping them from raising the price at the pumps to offset the loss they incurred from loosing their Subsidies and paying higher Royalties.

It will be a good thing for the Government, they will get more money to spend, but we will pay the price at the pumps.

I am all for doing away with Subsidies, but do not blow smoke up my butt like the Dem's are doing. All they did was secure more Gov money and give the consumer less money in their pocket.

And how many times in the past have they been able to ear mark money to go where it is suppose to? I guess they do such a good job keeping Social Security money in its proper place we can trust them to keep this money going in the proper spot. :)

Dem's have secured poor getting poorer with this bill and minimum wage increase. But I guess that is the way they like it, if the poor did not stay poor they would not have a base.

One way to remedy this is to offer no bid contracts to Haliburton, the less companies you contract work to the shorter the paper trail and the better the oversight right? How about all the money Bushy threw at New Orleans to try to save his @ss? The last six years sure have been efficient haven't they.

About as efficient as the previous 200 years. Is it hard to understand no Politician can handle our money? That is why we need less taxes not more.

How efficient was Clinton those 8 years that he used Haliburton?

Bush wouldn't need to throw money at N.O. to save his A$$ if it was not for the Libs trying to hang his A$$ instead of Governor and Mayor.

How do you "conservatives" plan on "Policing the World" and lower taxes at the same time? I'm all for lowering taxes but it's a vicious group of lawmakers on both sides of the aisle who crave them. The people who elect them want nice things for their district and or state but don't want to pay more taxes. Taxes really aren't a party issue, 99% of our tax money is spent without 99% of the uninformed public knowing where it goes. You and may seem worlds apart in our politics yet I think we both are looking for the same core values.
