I had a great chance today to talk with and have a toddy with (until his sweet wife drug him away )my old buddy Ron Marlenee (ex- MT Congressmen- who's son in law is the local (R) party chairman)- and he couldn't or wouldn't tell me for who that Whitetail-Big Beaver port was originally put in- but he did agree that it was there because it was financially beneficial to some for years that had cropland holdings in both countries........
And agreed that now- with transport the way it is- it needs to be shutdown....
And since its never been a 24 hourport- it shouldn't hinder you from your expectations of 24/7 medical care you expect...

BigBeaver border crossing to close By Pamela Roth, Leader-Post August 5, 2010 Residents living in the R.M. of Happy Valley aren't so happy any more after learning that the BigBeaver Port of Entry will close next spring. David Schwab, R.M. reeve, said most residents saw the closure coming about a year ago, but remained hopeful it would stay open for business. "It's no surprise to me or any of the local people. It's a real hassle to even get back into our own country," said Schwab. "We are hoping they will change their mind, but I don't know if that is going to happen or not." The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) said Tuesday the decision was made to close the "under-used"port after a review to make sure government money was being allocated to high-priority programs. According to Sabrina Mehes, CBSA spokeswoman, the border crossing sees an average of five travellers a day and no commercial vehicles. The next closestport of entry is Coronach, located 28 kilometres west, then Regway, which is 55 kilometres east from BigBeaver. Mehes said the decision to close the border crossing was determined through detailed regional input from local CBSA representatives and was primarily based on an assessment of the community's use of theport of entry. As of April 1, 2011, travelers from Canada to the U.S. will still be able to cross at Whitetail, but those headed to Canada from the U.S. will have to use an alternate route. Ironically, the WhitetailPort of Entry on the other side of the border will be undergoing $8.5 million in upgrades. Schwab lives eight miles from the border crossing and travels through there at least once a month. Instead of a 10-minute trip to across the border, he now has to travel at least half an hour. But he's hardly the only one who will be inconvenienced once theport of entry closes. Schwab said some American farmers have land on the Canadian side of the border and pass through the crossing frequently. He fears the closure might discourage some Americans from using the border crossing altogether, which he said will have a direct impact on the local economy. "There are a few American customers that come up here and shop at our local store," he said. "It's going to be bad." BigBeaver is located approximately 187 kilometres south of Regina.
