When it gets dryer and the leaves tougher and it gets bedded down , I'm not too sure how a sickle cutter with a reel on it would do. Might be lots of getoffs. This field is about half orchard grass. I had to run quite a bit of air to get rid of the orchard grass seed and it still made 330 lbs of net clean seed (fescue) to the acre. .52cents per lb so it makes more money to cut the seed then cut the tougher , more mature hay behind the combine. We also baled the straw off of it and sold it. Fescue is pretty versitile. One little 16 acre field made 819 lbs of fescue seed to the acre. 425.00 per acre and you don't have to plow it or plant it. It's usually not like that though.
