Teachers caned

Steve

The teachers were caned by a police officer in front of their pupils after an investigation into poor exam results at three schools.

The report blamed teachers for being late or not showing up for work and not teaching the official syllabus.

I have felt that when a child fails the teacher is partly to blame.. just as the parents and child must put an honest effort in, so must the teacher...

some teachers inspire students and teach with pride, while others are just poor teachers...

Caning might not make them better teachers, but they might learn enough from the experience to get out of teaching..

as for the outraged teachers union.. if they put as much effort into teaching... we wouldn't have had a chuckle at this story...

Steve, do you believe they should cane teachers here in the U.S.? Do you think that would help the educational system? Why didn't Reagan just cane the air traffic controllers instead of firing them, wouldn't that have been more effective in your view? Perhaps every new president can cane the last one they disagreed with.

You are getting a little ridiculous here with the corporal punishment thing. Did you get a cane you are interested on using for your birthday or do you have a kid that just not like their teacher? Perhaps you just hate teachers.

not as ridiculous as your comment... but I'll try to answer.

teachers have a responsibility to teach.. even if I don't feel the punishment was correct,.. it did make me chuckle.. laugh.. so no I don't feel it is appropriate..firing would make more sense.. but considering the childish nature of some of the teachers I have dealt with over the years,, caning might work.. (BTW are you a teacher, because you sure can act childish)

as for the rest.. you get even more ridiculous and seem to be falling back to your old insultious ways.. did they cut your meds again?

as for you insulting my child...
actually my child was at the top of his class and is now studying at a Lehigh university.

No steve, I am not a teacher and yes, my kids are at the top of their class also. I read the article and saw a government in Africa that supposes that caning teachers is the way to get what they want out of them. It sounded a little too totalitarian to me but you seem to think it might work. I hope you were smiling as in joking as I was when writing my post, but hey, that is the kind of person that went overboard at Abu Ghraib.

...and no, I wasn't trying to insult your kids. I don't hold parents against kids, but it does help me understand them.

okey Tex, let me help you a bit in understanding why I posted the story.. it was funny and tragic.. tragic that a country feels that teachers need to be caned.. but mostly tragic because the students failed because the teachers failed to show up to teach..

with a little digging you would have known that the same teachers caned their students.. often for failing the exams..

"These Tanzania schools are known to use corporal punishment",

so when I saw the teachers were caned as well... I chuckled..

sorry if your unable to understand the irony of the teachers getting caned..

Hey, I think it is exactly what they are taught and it is part of the reason Africa is in the mess they are in.

"sorry if your unable to understand the irony of the teachers getting caned."

I really understand the irony here when you misspell "you're" in the sentence above. Who should have been caned, you or your teacher?

Steve: "Teachers have a responsibility to teach." If only that was all they had to do! What a happy lot they would be!
