The Obama Justice Dept has dropped all charges against Stevens rerports say.

Where's OT with all his huffing and puffing?

Murtha is about to go down now too.

maybe someone on here can explain prosecutors misconduct?

not that Stevens did no wrong,.. and he should have stepped down or at least aside from the race,... but a prosecutor useing his office to persecute a sitting senator,.. should be a jailable offence.. or at least be "forced" to resign...

while were on the subject of bad democrat ethics... who is Obama's newest tax cheat... I'll give you a hint... Kansas...

This is a little concerning to me. Is "justice" just a political whim? I don't think Stevens should necessarily go to jail because of his age and the type of crime, but I do think he should lose any amount of money or advantage his political office gave him even if he has to go in cheap public housing (as long as the charges are true). That includes banning any future gifts from those he represented in any way instead of the public interest and his cush retirement from congress.

Exxon got out of a 5 billion dollar jury verdict on the Valdez (reduced to 382 million), it took 20 years to get them to pay, the natives were extorted with threat of more tying up of the payout by the legal system, the pres. of Exxon at that time got 400 million in retirement compensation, and the natives got the shaft.

The judges who allowed this travesty by corporate America were appointed with the help of Stevens who could have put a stop to this fascist leaning court system but did not.

Justice in the United States does not seem to exist as an independent entity. Instead, it is "just us" of those who control money and those who are tempted by its worldly power.

There still exists the possibility that there is more to this than we know as of yet. It will be interesting to follow.

Oldtimer -----I like seeing it in print... This old crook has had free run too long...

I wonder how Oldtimer likes seeing in print that the charges have been dropped by Holder because evidence was withheld.

I read that the reason for dropping the case against Stevens was that the prosecuting attorneys failed to turn over evidence in the case that was material. If this is the case, there are a few lawyers at the justice department who need to be disbarred and not allowed to practice law any more. Of course they have a good old boys club too, just like Congress and Stevens, so this probably won't happen.

I can respect Bush for making Scooter lose his law license (I thought he should not have been partially pardoned and should have had to face the music), and these attorneys, who are supposed to be running the country's justice department, should lose their license also, if indeed they are guilty of not following the laws of the land when it comes to material evidence. If it is just a technicality and not material evidence, then this is just politics in the justice department---AGAIN.

Bush appointed US Attorneys and Attorney General were the prosecuters... Makes you wonder if they purposely threw the case.... :???:

But this is no surprise- as part of the Bush legacy will be the total incompetence of Administration attorneys and complete internal breakdown within the US Attorney Generals office.....From prosecuters I've talked to- morale was nonexistent anymore down on the front line levels...

I'm happy to see the new Attorney General do the right thing- and if the government broke the law- didn't follow the rules- admit it instead of trying to cover it up...

Who else you going to blame- It happened during Bush's Watch- who appoints not only the Attorney General- but the US Attorneys for each District... It happened during a Bush Attorney Generals Watch...
The law was apparently violated under Bush's watch-either intentionally, accidentally or because of incompetence....I would hope- and think probably the latter because of the breakdown within the department that I've been told of-----
but Ya I know Repubs don't take blame for screwups- only credit if something good happens....

Brenda Morris joined the Public Integrity Section, Criminal Division, U.S. Department of Justice in September 1991.
Do you know who Brenda is Oldtimer and who was in office when she joined the US Justice Department?

Tam it isn't OT's fault he can't accept any responsibility as he was a an old republican before he became "independent", before he became a Neo~liberal.. so it is still the republican's fault..

Good post Tex! Poor Exxon maybe they had to wait that long to build up their reserves, compliments of the tax breaks they have received over the years from the US as compared to other countries.
