Ted Turner and the Ogallala Aquifer

I don't think Turner will ever be able to sell the water rights for the water under his ground, because we landowners in Nebr don't own that water. The water is owned by the people of the state, and is regulated by the NRD,s of Nebr. There are no new permits being issued in my NRD for irrigation size wells now.Sometime in the future all NRDs in Nebr will be issuing no new permits. Also it is illegal to transport large amounts of water across the Nebr state line.

Thank you for your information. Seems apparent that Nebraska was wise enough a long time ago to protect their water.

Good points. It seems that Turner has properties in other states also served by the Ogallala. But it isn't just Turner, the Ogallala, and the UN. Dense population areas are also sucking the Colorado dry. It will be interesting to see what an actual day of reckoning holds and who will make out like a bandit.
