Ted Turner Opposes Media Showing Flags, Unsure of His Side in War on Terror
Posted by Noel Sheppard on October 9, 2006 - 21:04.
These two videos will certainly shock people. Speaking in front of the National Press Club, media mogul Ted Turner actually spoke out against news programs showing the American flag during coverage of the Iraq war. Maybe more shocking, he said that he’s unclear what side to take on the war on terror.

What follows are the full transcripts of both sound bites, with videos here and here (grateful hat tip to Drudge).

I mean, I just really wonder that during the, during the last war, you know, what business did it have in the news sets to have the American flag flying in the background. I mean, it was like the news media covered the Iraq war, at least at the beginning of it, almost as like it was a football game with us versus them. And I can understand that for the U.S. based media, uh, to, to, to do that. But, I really, and certainly it was inappropriate for CNN to do it that way.

You know, this, this, there are a lot of things about this war that disturb me, and one of them is, uh, one of them is the attitude that, you know, that was well-expressed by our president. He said it very clearly, he said “Either you’re with us, or you’re against us.” And, I had a problem with that because I really hadn’t made my mind up yet. You know, what if you haven’t made your mind up. You know, what if you’re thinking about it, doing some studying, doing some reading. Because this is an important decision to go to war or whether or not to go to war. I mean either you’re with us or against us…that’s pretty black and white.

Liberal media bias? What liberal media bias?

Prove me wrong. You bad mouth Bush at every opportunity. As Mike says, "If the shoe fits........."

Kolanuraven, I do appreciate the support you give to the soldiers even though you absolutely hate their Commander-in-Chief.

My apologies to other Georgia folks who don't fit this mold.

It would certainly appear that he isn't with us,so we must conclude he is against!

It must be an attitude that thrives in Geawga. :?
Please explain the term, I am not familiar with American vernacular as yet. During the war on terror in my country, the 'neutrals' and fence sitters did more to further the cause of the terrorists than did those who supported them outright, and eventually many became victims of the organisations they chose not to oppose, the terrorists have no qualms in targeting 'neutrals' as they are a soft target.

Mr.Soapweed:

I don't have to prove ANYTHING to you! I've heard many good things about you over the years from several people ,but they did tell me to be aware of your more bitchy side.

I hear all this " appreciation" being lauded about due to my support for the troops...well quit telling me and get to sending stuff yourself.

Don't go slammin' me over my dislike for Bush....you have equal dislike for Clinton. Pot can't call the kettle black on this one.

And Mike...if a post is addressed to someone in particular I'd assume you could understand that it was not intended for you. You read others people mail also?

He seems like a normal human being to me. Of course I don't have electricity (like that would matter  ) so my observation might not be valid.

Maybe he should just take a trip to Iraq or Iran and find out whose
side he really is on.

Heck, I'd even buy him the ticket.

where can I mail in my monetary donation for the above mentioned ticket??? Maybe he could take Hanoi Jane with him on a little "vacation"!!

You have to go on "hearsay" to realize I have a "bitchy side". :) All I have to do is read your posts day after day. Your bitchy side comes through loud and clear all on its own. :) Yes, I'll admit that I have a bitchy side. I can take quite a bit for quite a long time, though, before my b.s. comes shining through. Then watch out, whoever set me off.

I hear all this " appreciation" being lauded about due to my support for the troops...well quit telling me and get to sending stuff yourself.

Kolanuraven, you don't have to get all hoity toity on me. I commend you for sending your care packages. It is an admirable thing to be doing. I just hope that your hatred for President Bush and the Iraq War doesn't rub off on the soldiers that you send to. If it does, it would be better that you not send anything at all, than to have them get demoralized and depressed because you do.

You give, and that is great. Peach Blossom and I send to some relatives that are serving in Iraq. For your information, I did give of my time to the military, and was a member of the Nebraska National Guard for six years, from 1972 until 1978. I served to the best of my ability, achieved the rank of Sargent E5, and received an honorable discharge. I would have been promoted to E6 with a re-enlistmen of two more years, but didn't end up doing that. Nonetheless, I tried to do my part in helping to keep our great nation free.

Don't go slammin' me over my dislike for Bush....you have equal dislike for Clinton. Pot can't call the kettle black on this one.

Yes, I didn't care too much for Clinton. I'll admit that he was somewhat of a charming chap, but he was not cut out to be proper Presidential material. Many of our current problems got started because of his two terms. Once a boulder starts falling off a mountain, it is pretty hard to get it stopped.

And Mike...if a post is addressed to someone in particular I'd assume you could understand that it was not intended for you. You read others people mail also?

This is a public forum, kolanuraven. Mike has every bit as much right to post as you or me.

Please could someone explain the term "Geawga' to me so that I have an Idea as to what is being implied, my previous request is apparently being ignored, I cannot agree to, or refute the statement if I don't understand the term. The forum is international and I attempt to use teminology common to most English speaking countries, but even so I occasionally slip up and have to go back to a thread and clarify what I have said, All I ask is that the same courtersy be extended to me.

It was a cobbled up way of saying "Georgia". Ted Turner is from Georgia. Kolanuraven is from Georgia. They think much along the same lines.
