Tempe Elementary School District No. 3

Superintendent Tate’s Directive Concerning President’s Broadcast

The United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has informed school districts that President Obama will deliver an address to the Nation’s school children on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. Arizona time. This will be a live broadcast which can be accessed at the White House website: www.whitehouse.gov. The President’s message will also be broadcast on C-SPAN. The President will talk to the children about “persisting and succeeding in school.”

Parents who wish to view the President’s message can easily do so by using the White House website or C-SPAN. As indicated in the promotional literature, our President will use this unique occasion when talking to our students to “challenge students to work hard, set educational goals and take responsibility for their learning.”

I have directed principals to have students and teachers view the President’s message on Tuesday. In some cases, where technology will not permit access to the White House website, DVDs will be provided to classes on subsequent days.

I am not permitting parents to opt out students from viewing the President’s message, since this is a purely educational event. Parents and interested individuals should access the White House website to learn more about the President’s address. Should you have questions or concerns, feel free to email me at: [email protected]

i can't believe the panic here. you mean parents can't let the kids listen to obama and then discuss it with them after? isn't that one of the best ways of learning? hear both sides and discuss and evaluate. if obama is so unamerican expose him for it. why do you constantly want to live in fear? what is the job of parents?

I agree Don. I mean, if you don't like the man, that's ok, but respect the office. Whats the topics? Work hard, set goals, take responsibility, sounds ok to me. Geesh, whats the big deal?

The big deal is telling the parents THEY can not have thier own children not participate in a political event at school.

FYI mine will be allowed to listen then they will discuss what they thought.
If the school said the children HAD to listen they would be staying at home.

No matter how you try and spin this its IS political, same as when any other president had a program.
They also took the health care bill info out due to parent speaking out.

It is not the issue of listening to obama. it is telling the parents they have NO choice but to let their kids listen!!

I'd like to have that SOB tell me to my face that he wasn't "permitting" my kids to opt out of listening to the Great Socialist.

don, don't you get it yet? We don't trust the SOB as far as we can throw him! We rue the day he was born, wherever that happened. The man is a scum bag of scum bags, and not the type of person that we want our kids to have anything to do with! The man is a 5 star POS!!!!!

I think French Canadians, from SK. caused the Americans to being screwed.

Why else wouldn't the American people trust their President?

Heck, he hasn't hid anything from them in the past.

So it must be the French people's from SK's fault. They are "racist" in that province.

It's a regional problem, isn't it?
