And if there is a dog anywhere in the vicinity, make sure it isn't standing right in the middle of the gate you are trying to coax the cattle through. :wink:

See, you're doing it wrong. The Dog should be bringing the cattle to you,

;-}

The sun should shine every day, with just enough breeze to turn the windmills, and there should be half an inch of rain per week. This is in an ideal world. :wink: Unfortunately we are not living in an ideal world. :? Through quite a bit of hands on experience, I have discovered a few axioms that can make my world operate more ideally, regardless of things that can't be controlled. Not having a "cowdog" around is great for starters. :-) I'd rather have a non-cowdog on hand, than a dog that is always trying to molest the cattle. This is my story, and I'm stickin' to it. :-)

Soap, I am not sure where this thread went as I am in a bit of a hurry and didn;t read the next 5 pages.

Differing opinions are more than fine. I have seen enough pics of your crew to fully respect you and what you all do,

I'd also rather have no dog than one that has no idea what it is doing or is in anyway outta control. The most important command they better respond to instantly is "Down". If I can stop them, I feel I can prevent a lot of wrecks.

Funny thing. I have seen guys with good dogs and guys with bad ones. the guys with bad ones generally don't know it

Boy, ain't that the truth. :roll: :wink: :-)

PPRM, you have summed up my whole lifetime of observations in one short sentence. :-)

If i have my dogs with me in the car or truck at someone's place i leave them loaded while i visit.I hate when folks bring thier dogs,and just let them start running my place uninvited :x

I look at dogs and kids the same. I wouldn't let my kids have the run of the place and I generally always know where they are at. Even when I have worked for someone else my dogs stayed with me. They didn't run all over the ranch and go over to one of the other hired hands houses and cause a nusance. That is something I really struggle with, it is disrespectful of someone else's space.
