A Texas health worker who provided care for the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the United States has tested positive for the deadly virus in a preliminary examination, a state health official said on Sunday.

The health care worker at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital reported a low-grade fever Friday night and was isolated and referred for testing, the Texas Department of State Health Services said in a statement.

"We knew a second case could be a reality, and we've been preparing for this possibility," said Dr. David Lakey, commissioner of the health service.

The first person in the United States diagnosed with Ebola, Liberia citizen Thomas Eric Duncan, died in an isolation ward of the Dallas hospital on Oct. 8, 11 days after being admitted.

The U.S. government has since ordered five airports to start screening passengers from West Africa for fever.

The number of people known to have died in the worst Ebola outbreak on record has risen to 4,033 out of 8,399 cases in seven countries, the World Health Organization said on Friday.

Liberia has been the worst affected country with 2,316 victims, followed by 930 in Sierra Leone, 778 in Guinea, eight in Nigeria and one in the United States, WHO said.

From another article:

Dr. Daniel Varga, chief clinical officer at the hospital, said that the worker did wear a protective suit while administering care to the original Ebola patient, and was thought to be at a low risk for getting the virus.

This is some dangerous shyte and anyone who says otheriwse is fooling themselves. Explosive squirting from both ends of the body.

And, of course, if you get it, there's about a 50% chance of after living through hell, you'll die from it.

It'd be nice if we had a President who actually cared about the citizens of the United States and was leader enough to step up and do something, rather than worrying about his next tee time.

I have a hard time thinking W would just be sitting back doing nothing about this.

A few photos from ebola-stricken west africa. Looking at these photos I was thinking that it would be instructive if these photos could be distributed amongst african-americans in the US who whine constantly about the horrors of the discrimination they and their ancestors suffered at the hands of whitey. They should be so lucky as to wake up in Monrovia.

Well, wasn't that pleasant? And thanks to the Honorable President Barack H. Obama, the borders of the United States and the country's ability to protect them, have all but been neutralized for the sake of politics.

A true perfect storm. Thanks Obama voters!

This infection despite an attempt to limit transmission through hazmat suit and safest known protocol.

Don't forget the sheriffs deputy in Dallas that's sick, but not yet diagnosed.

Let me know when this is a big deal president Pinocchio.

Seems prejudiced. Who are we to tell them what they eat, & frick?

My whole perspective of those pictures says that Blacks here who descended from slavery should be on their knees thanking God that someone brought them over here.

Except for Haiti that is, there they brought the Hell-Hole over here with them.
