"Texit"

After residents of the UK voted today to leave the European Union, the movement for an independent Texas may be gaining serious momentum, with thousands online calling for a “Texit.”

The largest group agitating for secession is the Texas Nationalist Movement, which has been promoting its own version of Brexit, called Texit, over the past several weeks. The group has taken inspiration from the pro-exit campaign in Britain, noting that the two movements share many of the same principles. Daniel Miller, president of the TNM, told Australian website news.com.au, “The vast majority of the laws, rules and regulations that affect the people of Texas are created by the political class or unelected bureaucrats in Washington” — a sentiment which echoes the arguments made by the British Leave campaign.

If Texas moves, others will move with them. Just like 1860.

And with the same results.

Then that would be excellent. As Jefferson said, " The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time by the blood of patriots and tyrants".

Simplistic analysis. I would give the outcome to divine providence if such were to occur, whichever direction that would be.

It's not the same country it was.

The central government is broke beyond the point of recovery. Who is going to finance a failed US gov in a 2nd civil war? The rich EU? Maybe the restarted friendship with Russia?

What army will the US utilize to fight a 2nd civil war? The one composed mostly of red state troops? Are they going to fight against their homes? Highly doubt that.

What east coast trust fund babies are going to want to get into a real fight? Maybe you're thinking a bunch of hoodlums? They would probably spend more time trying to knock off convenient and electronic stores than actually fight an armed enemy. Union thugs would want to know what was in it for them. If it required over a 30 hr work week and the fighting didn't have a 15 minute break every 2 hours, they'd be out.

The coastal liberals don't have the stomach for a civil war. They enjoy central oppression and organized robbery of the working middle class and central state producers, but they don't have the stomach to do the robbing/fighting themselves.

A person fighting for liberty is a formidable opponent.

The current "union" doesn't have the manufacturing capability it once had. Those manufactures have been relocated around the world.

How much military resources does the US military have now anyway? Seems that it's below our pre-WWII status. With all the conflicts in the middle east and need for a presence in northern europe and the south pacific, just how much is left over?

Wonder if any of the irritated nations around the world that have been upset with Obama/Hillary's nation building would kick in some assets to upset their apple cart?

Civil wars and wars of independence have been started and won with less.

Texas entered the union as a republic, and enjoys greater autonomy (assuming laws mean anything).

If the tenth amendment was lawfully followed, there'd be no need to texit

The first civil war settled that.

All good questions but all also apply to both sides.
