Thailand opens to Canadian Beef

The Canadian Beef Export Federation (CBEF) is pleased to announce that Thailand has become the latest country in South East Asia to reopen their border to trade in Canadian Beef.

The border opening was accomplished through the joint efforts of the Canadian Embassy in Thailand, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and the Canada Beef Export Federation with our export member - Malcan Land & Cattle Co. Ltd.
Initially export certificates will be issued for UTM boneless beef and it is anticipated that additional products will become eligible in the future. Thailand veterinary authorities have recently made an inspection visit to Canada which contributed to the opening of this market

Just doing a little thinking out loud here. Why do these ‘we can ship and you can’t type posts always sound like neener- neener! Every pound of beef that Canada ships somewhere else will not be dumped here, so will not depress prices here. Correct? You will be getting good prices for Canadian beef with your additional export markets. So why the attitude? It sounds like a win situation for everyone. We should all celebrate this good news! I hope to read of a new market open to you every day! :D

Another thought. This beef will probably be shipped through American owned packing plants. How many U.S owned packers are in Canada? How many packers are cut out of the deal that do not own plants in Canada? With Canada shipping and the U.S blocked, kind of eliminates competition from the smaller plants like Creekstone, etc. Again, who benefits from our exports blocked and yours open? Sure seems convenient, don’t it? Oh, $hit! I might have just joined the other conspirators on this forum!

The two plants shipping to Japan from Canada are one Cargill and one in Quebec (an independent) I believe these are the only two.

R-CALF is trying again to get their day in court to prove Beef coming from a country affect by BSE is a risk to human health and should not be imported into the US. BUT most if not all consumers have been told by the USDA, OIE, and some beef industry people world wide that the SRM removal is thee main step to be taken to insure that the beef is safe coming from an affected country. US consumers also know that the US IS AN AFFECTED COUNTRY. So I ask you What do you think will happen to your beef demand if R-CALF is successful and your consumers figure out the reason Japan won't eat your U20M beef is because of improper SRM removal?

Maybe the Canadian Beef industry should run an ad in the Washington Post thanking the Japanese Government for the confidence they have shown to the Canadian Beef industry and our high standards that we have implemented to protect our consumers, like SRM removal

Did you forget we do have export markets taking untested OTM Beef Haymaker? And all they asked of us is to be sure the SRM's are removed.

<chuckle> I won't comment on the motives behind the posting, but I hope they do continue, as there is the occasional story posted here that I miss when I peruse other sites.
