I want to say once again, that I was a supporter of war with Iraq. I don't anymore because this administration is incompetent in handling the resources of citizens in the U.S. and in promoting democracy in the world.

So now that the forces are up to strength, and they are having a positive effect, is it a good time to give up ??

I have always supported the troops...

No one should be surprised by this.

Remember when these wars first cranked up....many parents/families were having to buy, out of their own pockets ,the Kevlar for protection for the troops as the service did not provide enough of it for the troops.

I wasn't surprised, Kevlar, like everything else that benefits the military was cut out of Clinton's "peace dividend" budget...

Positive effect? There are over two million refugees because of this war. Ethnic (religious) cleansing has occurred and the people are not taking care of their own governmental duties. They aren't even trying.

Sell the cow.

Although sad that anyone serving a country isn't automatically assigned the bonus...I know with the Health Unit I work for that when a person is hired with a signing bonus, they have to honor the time agreement or they loose the bonus.

This is hardly the same thing. These people didn't just decide they didn't want to be soliders any more. They are damaged, mained, wounded and are unfit for duty. Many of them would be glad to go back and serve if they were medically cleared for duty. To compare your "Health Unit" and these soldiers is like apples and oranges.
   Of course I realise this, the point I 'was' trying to make is that it is the norm that when a bonus is agree'd to its comes with strings and it doesn't seem to make exceptions.

But you did ignore my first line and attacked the rest,ALL soldiers in North America deserve to be paid and paid very, very well. They're fighting for you to have the time to post on the computer and be a cranky little thing.

Do I think its wrong...YES.Do I think it should be changed YES,but like Mike was trying to point out it doesn't matter what type of contract you go into.....cover your butt and understand all the contract and the strings that come attached.

When I present a contract to a prospective home buyer, it is incumbent on me to go through that contract with the buyer and make sure they understand every paragraph, every clause, and every contingency. When I buy an appliance and decide to get an extended warranty, they walk me through the contract so I know what it is I am signing. Why would they not do the same thing when they are dangling up to $30,000 in front of a kid? Could it be that they figure even impressionable kids recognize the unfairness of being wounded, of trying to learn to walk with a prosthesis, of trying to adapt to seeing out of one eye, and having to repay thousands of dollars because they failed to finish their term of service? Taking advantage of gullible kids is not a characteristic I want to see in todays armed services. If they are going to have that clause in the contract, then every kid signing it should initial that clause.....make it obvious that they are aware of the consequences of doing your job well, but having bad luck.

:agree:

For once you make sense.
Read and understand what you are signing.
Bottom line is if you do not understand what you are agreeing to don't sign, don't take the money and then cry foul!!

You are right that the reps did not do many of the things they could have.
Though the Dems have failed also, very seldom do they come up with sonmething..............if Bush would veto it they could be on him hard.
One thing I have found funny..........but it really interesting. The dems have complained about Bush's spending.........rightly so. But there answer since they have the opportunity (including the dem president hopefuls) is advocate more spending.

To solve gov problems you have to increase income and cut spending.
The tax rate cuts increased revenue..............now who will step up to the plate and cut spending instead of using our money to buy votes.

We're spending $10 Billion a month in Iraq. Cut that out and we'd be in better financial shape. The difference in the Republicans and Dems is that Republicans want to spend that money in Iraq while the Dems want to spend it here in the US. We need to fix the infastructure of this country. We need to send more kids to college. We need more medical research. We need more re-training of people laid off from mfg jobs. Our wounded, mained vets need better medical treatment. But to do that, we'll have to go further in debt because we're spending $10 Billion a month in Iraq. You can ignore that and pretend the Dems are the spend thrifts that the Republicans have been for 12 years now, but it won't fly. We've got to vote out the obstructionist Republicans in Congress.
