THAT'S ALOT OF BEEF

BMR, "I am saying that it's not the only factor and that the percentage of your market that the Canadian beef fills isn't that large."

Nobody said it was the only factor, but the fact is increased supply does weigh negetively on prices.

When you're in a low margin business with an equally low RONA, there is no such thing as a negetive effect that "isn't that large".

You are also not taking into consideration the timing of when the packers use your cattle down here. Surely you've heard "timing is everything"?

They have enough of our money to pay it in our money, thanks to our sorry trade deals and a pegged yuan and currency manipulation.

don, I hate to tell you something you should already see. We have an energy policy here in the U.S. of use it up. If anyone gets in the way of that, we just invade them.

I asked you before what part of Texas some of you Canadians were in. It might not be so funny in a little while. Some of our boys over there might be in need of a nice Canadian vacation.

(I hope everyone knows I am joking in parts of this post)

so you mean deferment dick and flyaway george will set their sights on canada? i'm sure they've thought about it. actually the way it will work is the chinese will take their hard earned american dollars and buy up the canadian oil industry (they're at it already) and use their sales to you as a hedge against their purchases closer to home.

yep, thats what I mean. Funny how some things go in a circle. You just need to look back a few steps into this globalization to see what is really happening.

one other aspect to that is that it's a lot easier for the usa to get nasty with canada for not supplying enough oil than it is to get pi$$y with the chinese because not enough canadian oil is flowing south. a lot of chinese students taking business at the universities in alberta these days so they are working their way in. after rumsfeld and cheney lecture putin on human rights, etc. i wonder whether excess gas and oil from the former soviet union will go to the usa or china?

All this energy speculation is just stupid, no, damn stupid. So if Canada sends their oil to China, will that not displace oil that china would have bought elsewhere? Of course. Some ankle biting Canadians fantasize about injuring America, but the decent Canadians prevail. All this talk about not selling oil to the US is the product of a dull person imagining how to harm the US. Fortunately most Canadians aren't this driven by ill motives - classic cut off your nose to spite your face.

Anyone thinking about China replacing the US as a good oil customer should ask themselves when in history has an economy been sustained at the growth rate of China for a period longer than current Chinese expansion. Hint: China is going to receed soon.

Wanna think about something funny? China holds some US paper that may not maintain value very well, but better than Chinese holdings. Some way way overstate the Chinese holdings in the US. Why? stupidity or dishonesty.

Econ, you say this administration will kill for oil - truth is a stranger in your house. FACT IS, THE US COULD HAVE WORKED CORRUPT DEALS WITH HEUSSAIN A HELL OF ALOT EASIER THAN france DID. The cost may be high, but the score in Iraq is about freedom and humanity. Anyone suggesting Bush would consider stealing oil from Canada with military might is repugnant.

two points: my comment about china buying canadian oil was in response to sandhusker asking how we would cope if the usa cut back on imports from canada. not exactly a glut on the market right now so there are options.

china is going the other route and using american funds earned through trade and investing in canadian oil production. this works great as a hedge because it continues to earn american money by selling canadian oil to the usa and hedges cost of oil bought from the middle east or fsu countries.

I understand don. Soon we're going to get a cheap fast test for bse and it will be mostly a bad dream. BSE Won't destroy the cattle industry, and I hope it doesn't destroy friendly relations between countries.

I agree BSE will not destroy the cattle industry,if we remain vigilant, there is enough canadian beef coming into the USA now,and when it is proven that there is no risk of infecting the US herd, I will gladly accept OTM cattle, canadians can make idle threats all the want about cuttin off this cuttin off that etc, that wont get the border open and that is the only way OTM cattle are crossing, when there is absolutely no risk.....................good luck
