The "Buckwheat Bust" Continues

WASHINGTON (AP) — Four out of 5 U.S. adults struggle with joblessness, near poverty or reliance on welfare for at least parts of their lives, a sign of deteriorating economic security and an elusive American dream.

Survey data exclusive to The Associated Press points to an increasingly globalized U.S. economy, the widening gap between rich and poor and loss of good-paying manufacturing jobs as reasons for the trend.

The findings come as President Barack Obama tries to renew his administration's emphasis on the economy, saying in recent speeches that his highest priority is to "rebuild ladders of opportunity" and reverse income inequality.

Hardship is particularly on the rise among whites, based on several measures. Pessimism among that racial group about their families' economic futures has climbed to the highest point since at least 1987. In the most recent AP-GfK poll, 63 percent of whites called the economy "poor."

Friday's report showed that 58.7% of the civilian adult population of 245 million was working last month. Only 47% of Americans, however, had a full-time job.

and-thats-just-people-who-meet-the-strict-criteria-for-unemployed-include-people-working-part-time-who-want-to-work-full-time-plus-some-people-who-havent-looked-for-a-job-in-a-while-and-unemployments-at-17.jpg

If today the same proportion of Americans worked as just a decade ago, there would be almost 9 million more people working. Just in the last year, almost 2 million Americans have left the labor force.

In June, the number of Americans who wanted to work full-time, but were forced into part-time jobs because of the economy, jumped 352,000 to over 8 million.

8 million forced into part time jobs.. a number sure to grow.. adds up to 17.5% of Americans not able to find a decent job..

9 million who were forced to leave the workforce.. who are no longer counted.. and the true unemployment would be at great depression era levels .. BTW What was so great about that depression?

Researchers, computing data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, looked at 18-29 year-olds and found "62.9 percent are currently working, of which 31.2 percent work on a part-time basis."

seems to me that either,....

Obama is a bit slow at addressing the economy and jobs...

It isn't a priority to get folk working for the president,

Obama doesn't know what to do

or worse yet,.. Obama doesn't know what a job is.

If only we had warned them that he was incompetent, doesn't understand or care what made the country great, and generally doesn't have a clue about economics.
