100_2663.jpg

Got my gate closed so I can control the amount of sun seeds into the truck. Hubby gets kinda cranky if they are on the tarp...

100_2664.jpg

Sunflower field.

100_2668.jpg

I'll load the back first and back up as I unload.

100_2670.jpg

Waiting for the combine.. Yee Haww

100_2672.jpg

Dry and dusty... A good thing.

100_2673.jpg

Good stand of sunflowers with very little stalks down.

100_2674.jpg

We had trouble with the stalks plugging up the combine so we put rubber paddles on and reworked ( cut the hole bigger) the tin on the header..

Have you ever had trouble with a fires in sunflowers? Our neighbors just about lost their combine last week. That was the day it was about 80 with the wind blowing about 30MPH. Could have been a bad deal.

Is that header made for flowers or is it a corn header as well. All you see here is pickup headers and small grain headers. Just a little too close to the big rocks to have a long enough growing season for corn, flowers, beans, etc.

We use the Massy simply for that reason... NO TURBO.... JDS are famous for burning up and we don't use ours for sunflowers ever.... Hubby heard of three JDs burning up in the Pierre area..... We also drag a chain...

MARKETS:
It is likely that the sunflower crop will be smaller than the October USDA yield estimate due to the harvest delays witnessed throughout the production region for both oils and confections. There continues to be storage issues in the country which may lead to a good deal of sunflower looking for a commercial home during what may be a short harvest window. Oil World continues to point to oil as the stronger component of the soybean complex going into the new year. That, of course, is supportive of high oil content seeds like sunflower. Most analysts point to stronger sunflower markets going into spring. The international sunflower oil market should be supportive as well. Total world sunflower production will be down by 10 percent this year according to Oil World. Sunoil prices have been moving higher in Rotterdam and projections are that there will be greater segregation in prices between sun, canola and soybean oils.
