RAEFORD, N.C. — A Hoke County preschooler was fed chicken nuggets for lunch because a state worker felt that her homemade lunch did not have enough nutritional value, according to a report by the Carolina Journal.

The West Hoke Elementary School student was in her More at Four classroom when a state agent who was inspecting lunch boxes decided that her packed lunch — which consisted of a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, apple juice and potato chips — "did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines," the Journal reports.

The decision was made under consideration of a regulation put in place by the the Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services, which requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs to meet USDA guidelines.

"When home-packed lunches do not include all of the required items, child care providers must supplement them with the missing ones," the Journal reports.

The student's mother told the Journal she received a note from the school about the incident and was charged $1.25 for the cafeteria tray, from which her daughter only ate three chicken nuggets.

The note explained how students who did not bring "healthy lunches" would be offered the missing portions and that parents could be charged for the cost of the cafeteria food, the Journal reports.

The mother, who was not identified in the report, expressed concern about school officials telling her daughter that she wasn't "packing her lunch box properly."

The mother was charged for the food that was subsituted for the meal
in the lunchbox, I heard on the radio today. One caller said she should
sue the school for throwing away perfectly good food that came from home....

The mother did try to explain her daughter did not like vegetables a
and would throw them away if packed in her lunch, but that she did
have to eat vegetables at suppertime when the mother could sit with
her and make sure she ate them.

You gotta love the government intrusion.............NOT!!!

must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of grain, two servings of fruit or vegetables and one serving of milk.

a turkey (meat) and cheese (dairy) sandwich (grain), a banana (fruit), apple juice (fruit) and potato chips (Junk yes, but still a vegetable) — "did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines," the Journal reports.

orthree chicken nuggets.

even by their standards the packed lunch covered all the requirements.

are the educators to dumb to understand their own requirements..

maybe a course on reading comprehension would help..

It was lacking VEGETABLES.........that was their gripe..........

potato chips.. main ingredient.. Potatoes.. usually "two servings" per small bag..

may not be the ideal veggie.. but last I checked they are just as healthy as a cardboard nugget.

The libs don't care. But when someone questions their kids lunches they will be crying and wonder why no one is complaining. They are coming for your kid next you libs

they say you shouldn't watch sausage being made..

without the artificial flavor and coloring the box it comes in deep-fat fried would look more like a piece of chicken.
Chicken Nuggets Are Made From This Pink Goop

This is mechanically separated chicken. Chickens are turned into this goop so we can create delicious chicken nuggets and juicy chicken patties. It's obscenely gross and borderline alien
The process works a little something like this:

There's more: because it's crawling with bacteria, it will be washed with ammonia, soaked in it, actually. Then, because it tastes gross, it will be reflavored artificially. Then, because it is weirdly pink, it will be dyed with artificial color.

Note to liberals..

put down the cardboard and step away from the child..

Eat Beef. the real meat.

Having eaten in those cafeterias with the grandkids I can tell you that most of those veggies are raked into the trash bag when the child is finished with his lunch. He still will eat only the part he likes, not what Big Brother puts on the plate.

"I am so sorry this happened to this little girl," Barnes said. "On that day, the policy wasn't followed, and hey, we're the grown folks here. That's our fault. The teacher never should have sent that little girl into that line. She should have gone over and picked up the missing item and brought it to her."

"We're not trying to force government down anybody's throat. All we're trying to do is make sure that our children get a good education and a nutritious meal every day," Barnes said. "It comes back to: We had an employee who made a mistake."

Kind of contradicts this:

The program has 1,100 sites serving 25,000 children and is required to supply a healthful lunch. The U.S. Agriculture Department defines that as a serving of milk, two servings of fruits or vegetables, one serving of grain, and one serving of meat or protein.

AB 1678, a bill introduced into the California State Legislature on Tuesday a.k.a. Valentine's Day. But this was no love letter for fans of mobile food. The bill seeks to ban mobile food and beverage vending within 1,500 feet of elementary and secondary schools from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. when schools are in session. The bill was introduced by Bill Monning (D-Carmel), and already given support by the California Food Policy Advocates, which focuses on low income familes' access to affordable and nutritious foods.

2nd N.C. Mother Says Daughter's School Lunch Replaced for Not Being Healthy Enough

Diane Zambrano says her 4-year-old daughter, Jazlyn, is in the same West Hoke Elementary School class as the little girl whose lunch gained national attention earlier this week. When Zambrano picked Jazlyn up from school late last month, she was told by Jazlyn's teacher that the lunch she had packed that day did not meet the necessary guidelines and that Jazlyn had been sent to the cafeteria.

The lunch Zambrano packed for her daughter? A cheese and salami sandwich on a wheat bun with apple juice. The lunch she got in the cafeteria? Chicken nuggets, a sweet potato, bread and milk.

If the child was missing veggies why did the teacher give her CHICKEN NUGGETS? :? The last time I checked Chicken in not a veggie unless the teacher considered the corn in the breading was good enough to meet the missing required veggie serving.
