the finished placemats

The laminated placemats are finished and wrapped. They aren't terribly artistic. But it seemed like a way to remember a party or a trip instead of storing the photos away in an album. The one with the circle of map was the trip to Mackinac Island, Michigan with my sister. The wacky family photos were taken at my father-in-laws 94th birthday party. At Lily's suggestion the laminating was done at Staples and cost 60cents/placemat one week and $1.20 the second week

Lookin' good nr but I think you should maybe take some birthday party pics before you get into the punch.

hehe! It's all that inbreeding. Good thing is nobody will ever be beggin' to clone us!

Lily- we're moving on this AM to Christmas cookie baking. Turned on some Christmas caroles and got MR. nr to help decorate some cookies. So nice keeping him barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen :D (I better add  to avoid confusion with this group)lol

Mr nr has actually been working on his own Christmas project: converting old family films into DVDs which were taken by his aunt of him, his brothers and cousins when they were very little preschoolers. She had no children so doted on her nephews and nieces. It has been intriguing seeing the house interior of his grandparents who immigrated from Scotland to Philadelphia, those films of his family's Christmases and picnics, birthdays, graduations and even a segment of us leaving our wedding. She covered them all very carefully and even set up some skits with the children and filmed them! Today, though all the cousins are alive, only his dad is living out of the previous generation so we're thankful to have this lively remembrance.

How's he converting the old movies to DVD? is he just video'n them while they play. Mom gave me all of her home movies of us when we were kids on the old 8mm reels, but I haven't found a way to do it yet. Don't have a DVD video camera, or a video camera that'll hook to the DVD player/recorder.
I did take all the old slides and project them on the wall (some 500 pictures) and as I went thru them I took pictures of them with my digital camera then put them all on a CD for my brothers. That worked great.

Initially we took the super 8s and showed them on a screen and simultaneously took videos using the digital camera then made cd's. That actually worked pretty well- until the bulb blew. We replaced the bulb $45! and in short order the second one blew and the projector wasn't running right either. Rather than beating a dead horse we passed the remainder of the super 8s and the big reel films, for which we had no projector anyway, on to a camera store that sent them out. Mr nr picked some background music and they turned out pretty well especially considering the films were very old and hadn't been stored using any special precautions. I think they resided in at least 3 different attics/basements before arriving here as relatives passed them around, unable to view them but unable to toss them. Thankfully!
When we compared the super 8s we'd copied with the ones we sent out, there was not much difference in quality. surely would have been cheaper if we'd been able to do them all ourselves. Oh well, at least the job is done.
Hope yours works.
