The Fun Starts

I went to the Valleyhills Dispersal today and I got to buy some real nice cows but one in particular-she's a Ideal 033 daughter out of a Nichols Landmark L56 daughter which warms the cockles of my heart-a 16 year old cow with an average nursing ratio of 104 on 13 calves-sound as a dollar-she looks about 8. Her age scared alot of people off but I'm gambling on getting one good flush off her. The fun is deciding which bull to use EXT, Ohlde, New Design and Precision need not apply lol. I bought two old red angus cows that have elite status too-kind of pumped to be back in the bull deal again. Had a good visit with Dylan Biggs and were going to revibe our gras test that Pharo so successfully copied lol.

Good for you, NR. She sounds like a great cow.
We bought some cows bred to Nichols Landmark L56 years ago
and they were beautiful calves, but we were in a drought in
W. Montana and couldn't keep them. I think too, that we didn't
quite know what we had or else we may have figured out a way
to have kept them. We used to buy our bulls from a guy who
AI'd to 033 of Ideal and we wanted some sons out of that
deal and he misled us about the bulls, saying we didn't want that
breeding so we selected something else...only to find out that
HE kept the bull calves for his own use...of course, because of that and
a few other incidences with this same individual, we did not continue
to buy bulls from him. I have heard since that his best cow line is
from that 033 influence. Maybe someday I'll get to see the Ideal
cow herd in SD. I'd sure like to, anyway.

Good luck!!

That's the gamble, one good flush. Sometimes it pays and sometimes it doesn't. I hope she pays as she sounds like a great prospect.. Good luck as I have been on the good and bad side of that deal too..

My limited experience with ET is that if your cow is the right type (and I'm confident NR knows the right type) you'll get plenty embryos. We've been in the 14-22 range with all ours except my 22 year old who came up with zero (she did manage 18 as a 20 year old so I guess I shouldn't have got greedy, lol)
One problem we found was drastically poorer conception on old cow embryos - talking to Roger Davis he suspects that cows are affected the same way as humans where older conceived embryos may appear perfect when flushed but a week later would be deteriorated leading to poorer retention rates. We only got 6 calves out of the 18 embryos off the 20 year old flush but that was our worst rate.

Good luck with your purchases NR.

If I had that cow i whould breed her 6807. I think he's going to be the "new" hot bull. The worst that could happen is you get some heifers with a very desirable pedigree.
Maybe to you he's fits into the Ohlde comment?
Who will do the flush?
How did those rockett cows sell?

I'm leaning a bit old school myself. Yeah 6807 had some undesireable qualities and he's been done to death already. The same vet Brian uses will do the flush. The Rockets sold from 15-1700. That 707 son of Abs's is interesting has anybody seen him in the flesh.

You talking Rito Legacy 3R9? I haven't seen the bull- but seen lots of pictures of him- and like his looks.. And I have a Legacy son that I'm pleased with so far altho only seen one calf crop... You could use him and get 707, 6807 and Viking GD60 with even a touch of EXT about 3 generations back
One of his bull calves out of a powerful Lead On X Double Rito 525 Ear cow was a little brick- and weaned off at 795lbs actual weight this fall....

A bull I'm hearing lots of talk about in Montana this year that several are using is Cole Creek Black Cedar 46P #14496765... And the Cole Creek cattle have a history of working good with Jorgenson cattle...
Altho I'm not sure he's cleared for semen going to Canada...There was a rumor that ABS was looking at him because of his sales of last year....

It is well worth the trip to Jorgensons...we used their bulls for many years and they always did a great job for us...
