There's a truce in the land of the moose.
Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston are past their public spat over son Tripp, whose December arrival was followed by the bustup of Alaska's best-known teen parents and trash talk from their families.
News of the peace treaty came as Palin, 18, arrived in New York as chief spokeswoman for a group trying to prevent teen pregnancy. She was accompanied by her infant son.
Palin, after earlier this year advising sexually active teens to use contraception, endorsed abstinence this time around - and cited herself as Exhibit A.
"I think girls now, they think that having a baby is like having an accessory on their hip," the daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told a news conference. "They don't realize that it's such a huge responsibility and such hard work."
Palin and Johnston, 19, revealed their child-rearing rapprochement in dueling morning television show appearances.
"She seems to trust me a little bit more," Johnston said on CBS News' "The Early Show."
"And, you know, things are going pretty smooth now. So we'll see what happens, and hopefully, you know, she holds to her word on that."
Palin, 18, said her former-fiancé was now an active participant in raising their son. The baby boy was born a month after his grandma's failed GOP run for vice president.
"I'd love for Levi to be a part of his life," Bristol Palin said on NBC's "Today" show.
Johnston also told how the couple's safe-sex strategy went awry: "I was using condoms, but, you know, there's a few times, you know, we didn't."
Last month, Alaska Gov. Palin was upset after Johnston said Bristol's parents were aware of the couple's pre-marital hanky-panky. Johnston complained that the Palins kept his family away from seeing Tripp in the hospital and treated him like "trailer trash."
But Bristol's dad Todd said Wednesday Johnston has a place in his grandson's life.
"They're working out a schedule.... I know both of them will love and care for their son together," he said.
