The New Orleans Culture...

...of dependency just gets worse and worse. Nagin did a good job getting them out this time, but he didn't want them to come back until everything was PERFECT for them. They are just now leaving some of the shelters and headed back to New Orleans. And they'll do nothing but gripe and raise hell down there because their taxpayer-funded housing won't have electricity.

I've listened to crap on the local news all week about these people - fighting, protesting or griping about one thing or another. Their biggest complaints seemed to be that they were expecting the government to put them up in hotels and give them money.

Many of these evacuees didn't even bring any clothes or even a freakin' toothbrush with them. They depended on local residents to donate things for them if the shelters didn't provide them. And it all had to be brand new or they wouldn't take it.

Local residents and local law enforcement shouldn't have to put up with the crap that they put up with - responding to one disturbance or fight after another. Not to mention the thefts, drunks, etc. Completely disgusting.

Texan, it sounds like you may have had some staying with you? Did you cook 'em a big steak (and cut it up for them) and share your tooth brush with 'em as well??  Were they able to wipe on their own, or did you answer the call of duty again??

I love the comment about government cheese-- when they have commodity day up here on the Rez- those blocks of cheese is what everyone is trying to buy off the commodity recipients when they come off the Rez to peddle the commodities for drinking and drug money....

I think back to last year when we where with out electricity for over a week due to ice storm. No one gave us help, we rented a generator closed off the house and slept in living room. Other family members rented motels or stayed with each other in other areas that had electricity.

Now I look back at it as a great time to bond with family and let my kids see how to handle things when times get rough. My kids also loved going to work at the school and serve food for those in the town that needed help, most of them were elderly but much of the community came up to get a warm meal on occasion.

So much difference in attitude from those in NO. I do have to admire the trouble they will go through though to get something for free. I would not wait in line or go through the bureaucracy for that crap. I had a friend that was unemployed for a while and he made the joke that welfare is a job in itself is a job. But then again that was 20 years ago and now I am sure the Democrats have made it much easier to get and do.

That IS the best cheese EVER!!!!

Last wk, we had several "break-ins" in and about the county. It went from a convenience store to a couple of houses. No real pattern or rhyme or reason to them, scattered all over the county.

Come to find out, the people that did it were recent evacuees from the Gustav storm .
