The 'Obama doctrine' on national security begins to emerge

He rejects Bush's 'global war on terror' as too absolutist. But a top adviser says Obama will 'confront Al Qaeda aggressively wherever it exists.'

I guess this means Obama's new tag line will be "Global war on Al Qaeda." That seems pretty absolute as to how he is going to respond to Al Qaeda...perhaps he shouldn't be closed minded...maybe he could reach out to moderates in Al Qaeda to whom he could negotiate with.

Now I admit that is pretty flippant...but it seems Obama is trying to make a distinction without a real difference (just distancing himself from Bush). Bush's basic premise was 'terrorism wherever it is used is not acceptable', thus a "global war on terror". I guess we can only HOPE that Obama will respond the same to all terror whether Al Qaeda, Hamas, ELF, or others who use terror to advance their positions.
