make'n a trip ---to the "old family farm" today
the memories of "days gone by"--- never seem to go away
sittin next to an old oak---so quiet and free
if it could talk---it could tell some stories of me
my favorite old tree---sittin up on a hill
a watch'n the creek---so quiet and still
with clear blue water---and knee high grass
so calm and patient---waiting for the cattle to pass
while watching wildlife galore---both the ground and the sky
with no traffic or planes---sometimes i wish i could fly
with deer and turkey---and a sly old yote
me and the oak---it seemed so remote
i could hear a john deere---far to the west
an old oliver to the east---think'n which one was the best
and maybe a farmall ---far to the north
and i laughed,as i now own a kabota---to mow my yard back and forth
i was miss'n my cow dog---poor "old blue"
besides work'n cattle---he loved a good coon hunt to
he would ride in my ol truck---and we'd share a dew and a treat
from the local convience store---i thought it was so neat
the journeys to the "old family farm"---will soon be over
and the memories of "days gone by"---and the fields of clover
i'll hand down the old baler---the cattle i can not afford
as i sit next to the "old oak tree"---just me and the Lord!
