The Package

I wrote this for all of us out there fighting the drought. A fellers got time to scratch a few lines down while he's hauling water for the livestock. You read a good book by Jinglebob and get to thinking you can write poetry also.

The Package

It was just a little package
With a plain brown paper wrap
Postmarked “special delivery”
Tied with a nylon strap

My calloused hands were trembling
As the nylon strap poped open
Exposing inside my precious prize,
It was all and more that I’d been hopin!

There lying on the table
All shiny plastic and new
Was my state of the art new rain gauge
With a fancy wind meter too!

I mounted it on the tallest post
In the middle of the yard
Knowing it would be real accurate
Cause the wind hit it good and hard.

That was over a year ago
And my patience is wearin thin
I check the dang thing daily
Will it ever rain agin?

It’s always full of spider webs
And bugs of which all are dead
I want to see some moisture
Fill up my gauge instead!

I know the wind meter works
It’s straight out 5 days a week,
In fact once it blew so hard
It wound up down by the creek

So I’m going to send the darn thing back
As my feelings are really hurt
Please send me one that measures RAIN
Not spider webs, bugs and Dirt!!!!!

That was a super poem. Too bad it didn't have a better subject tho. When it starts raining, I hope you write us a rainy day
poem. Seriously, I don't know how long you have been writing poetry,
but this poem was really good!!

Very dry here. 96 today, some wind with it. YUK!

Our daughter went home today, she lives around Oshoto, Wyoming. That is north of Moorcroft and not too far from Devils' Tower. She called and
said she made it home and they had gotten an inch and a quarter of rain and some hail. Hail didn't do any damage, thank God. Rain did
a lot of good. Wish we could get some.

FH you better go visit your daughter on Sept 3 and run over to Devils Tower for all the music and poetry that will be going on. We've got some great people coming to entertain. All it costs is the admission to the park. $5 a car I think.

THAT IS A GREAT IDEA!! Thanks Jinglebob.

We missed out last year because of my father passing away.

I'm going to mark the calendar right now. That will be a great
place to be on Sept. 3.

Are you starring in the festivities?

I will host and if they pay me enough, I promise not to sing or do any poetry.

FH----didn't ya get any of the storm that rolled through here yesterday evening and all darned night!! Hail and lots of rain....came down pretty darned horizontal, though, so the rain gauge only read 7/10!! Know we got more than that, however, because I have the pictures of the standing water in my garden to prove it!! We could use some of your "dry and hot" here so that we can get the hay done!! Hubby's mood would sure improve if he had a little backing from mother nature!!

This is starting to get serious.

would LOVE to switch weather with ya for a few weeks.....more storm clouds overhead now and we are all saying our prayers....lost at least one cow to lightning the other day and the hay (600 acres down) is drenched!!!

I'LL TRADE, I'LL TRADE-- My 94 degrees 15% humidity and 25-35 mph wind is just what you need for that hay...

Governors Cup Walleye Derby is going on today and tomorrow on Fort Peck Lake-- They were predicting the wind on the lake could get as high as 50 mph...Gotta be making some big whitecaps---Gonna be some hot seasick fisherman come tonite....

Now that was a good poem, keep em coming. Hey JB, maybe I should bring someone here that is turning the BIG 50 on September 2 down there to celebrate her 49th birthday (again). Maybe we should all show up down there, aka Deadwood convention, again.
