The Red Cross can KMA

I used to think that the Red Cross was a worthy charity. I think it's great that in addition to helping the victims, they also provide services for emergency personnel during disasters. I've overlooked their screwups in the past. Not any more, though.

The only 'disaster' in Jena was the disaster perpetrated on the town by a bunch of outsiders - troublemakers that should have come prepared to take care of themselves or spend their money in Jena.

In this case, the Red Cross should have limited their aid to Law Enforcement only. They can kiss my ass.

Jena Protestors Received Hand Outs from Red Cross

The Central Louisiana Red Cross was on hand in Jena, Louisiana, last week distributing bottled water to the tens of thousands of protestors who descended on the small town to protest the arrest and prosecution of six young black men.

Why was a disaster-relief agency distributing free water to protestors? This was done at the request of State and Local officials, according to a spokesperson at the Red Cross office today.

The Red Cross was contacted prior to the planned march and asked to be on hand "to provide hydration or first aid for law enforcement or anyone who might need it" according to the spokesperson.

The local Red Cross office did not pay for the bottled water, according to the spokesperson, but she could not say which Red Cross office or other source those funds came from.

But I'll bet they were using it to solicit donations....I could see where Red Cross's priorities were long ago after my Grandmother showed me the "bills" she received for the blood transfusions my Dad received while lying in a military hospital in Australia during WW II..... :(

The only good thing is that after they received the bills- they at least knew he was alive after he had not been in physical condition to write them for months...

My dad was in the service and he saw a lot of things that he
didn't like about the Red Cross. Including what they didn't do
when he needed to get home for a family emergency.

The Salvation Army on the other hand, and according to him, was
great. So in later years, all his charity went to the Salvation Army.
I have carried on that tradition.

Same here FH--Dad really thought a lot of the Salvation Army- had nothing but good to say about them...He'd walk across town to stick something in their pot when we were Christmas shopping...

The only day I think my Dad came close to committing homicide was the day we were working on the knotter on the baler that had one of those "mystery problems" we'd fought with for days-and now had the rep out that couldn't find it either- and both the Red Cross and Jehovah Witness's showed up looking for donations....Definitely was not for tender ears....

I hear the same from our seniors here in Canada, they have no use for the Red Cross, claims they were no use during WW2 and were thiefs.

On the other hand, the opposite is said for the Sally Anne

From what I'm understanding this whole situation got blown out of hand by Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson using the raciest card :?

My friend who was in nam said that the Red Cross would blackmail the guys serving to donate to them.... Saying that if servicemen didn't donate and were captured.... The Red Cross wouldn't come to see them...  Ditto on the Salvation Army.........

Ditto....Dad said the Red Cross would charge for a cup of coffee and a donut while he was in the Pacific Theatre, but not so the Salvation Army.

In the years since, he and my mom (still) gave them many thousands of dollars.

The other worthwhile charity my mom gives to is the Shriner's Hospitals for Burned and Crippled Children, specifically to the transportation fund. The care is 100% free, but the parents and the child still need to get there.
