I don't know, and you don't either. But, taking it as a whole, with no research done on my part, I am going to say NO, it is not exorbitant. It is spread over 22 people.

I find it is ridiculous that Michelle needs this many people, and at this cost to the tax payers. About as ridiculous as Barack needing thirty unapproved czars to do the jobs that the approved by Senate government employees are to be doing.
When are these two going to realize that the US can't afford them and their assistants, Czar and economic advisors from GM.

I really would like to know if the Constitution supports an unapproved Obama CZAR telling private businesses what they have to limit their salaries too. And how far is Obama going to push his power before somebody takes his Administration to Court for over stepping?

Yes, it is out of control, ridiculous and shameful.

However, I would bet that every president since Hoover has wasted this kind of money. Obviously, not the same amount, but the same amount, adjusted for the time.

I think if any one of us had a real grasp on the amount of our money wasted in Washington, there would be a very real revolution.

I realize that makes me a right-wing, radical, extremist, tin-foil hat wearing, pocket constitution carrying, moonbat, bible-thumping, homophobic, racist, women oppressing, stuck in the 50's idealog, but so does the fact that I don't agree with most of what Obama says.

It might not be wasted, if there is some true value to it.

Does anybody know what the $1.2M+ is actually doing?

If it's charity, then it should be donated time and money that pays for it, not "forced charity though taxation"

Michelle Obama has 22 paid staff according to the posted list which cost the American taxpayers $1,256,000.

Laura Bush had 10 paid staff which cost the American taxpayers $764,900.

A difference of $491,100.

Here is another version

Ordinary Americans are struggling to pay their bill in the middle of a recession. The budget deficit is at record level. First Lady Michelle Obama has ignored these facts and increased the First Lady staff size by almost 30%. Laura Bush had a staff of 17 people at a cost of $1.28 million. Michelle Obama has increased that to 22 employees at a cost of $1,495,700 per year.

And Another version

Your Tax Dollars at Work: Supporting Michelle Obama in the Manner
Ralph Alter

The figures are in. As required by Congress since 1995, salaries paid to staffers employed in the West Wing of the White House must be publicly reported. Most of you won't be pleased to learn that your tax dollars are paying $1,448,500 annually to provide the First Lady, Michelle Obama, with the staff she feels she needs to execute her duties as FLOTUS.

For purposes of comparison, please consult Dan Froomkin's 2004 White House Staff List-By Salary published in the Washington Post on June 13, 2004. Tallying Laura Bush's staff from the list provided by Froomkin totals $561,325 in annual salaries for the former First Lady's staff.

This number does not include White House maintenance or kitchen staff or the occasional pizza night with Barack and Michelle flying in the chef from a St. Louis restaurant to kick back and share some deep dish with 140 of their close personal friends. Nor does it include date nights in Chicago.

And it certainly doesn't include Michelle's European vacation with her daughters. In fact, CNS reports that

"the White House will not reveal the cost to taxpayers of the European vacation that first lady Michelle Obama and the president's two daughters, Malia and Sasha, took last month."

Despite deploying multiple aircraft, a huge staff and a motorcade of 20 vehicles including support staff on tours of London and Paris and la-di-da, apparently the White House feels there is some sort of executive privilege involved in withholding the cost of the First Family's extravagances from the citizens who foot the bill for them.

Perhaps they thought we wouldn't notice?

"It was supposed to be a secret trip, but the motorcade gave it away." (ibid)

But one has to remember that when Bush was in office the economy wasn't in free fall like it was when Obama was hiring staff.

Most of these czars, on the other hand, are appointed by Obama at his sole discretion, and are answerable only to him. If subpoenaed by Congress, they can claim executive privilege.

I read these czars make from $100K to $180K does anyone know for sure what they are paid.
Does anyone remember how many Bush had?

You liberals have any suggestions as to why she needs twice the number of assistants as the previous 1st lady? :?

it started under President Reagan with a “Drug Czar”, which was continued under the senior Pres. Bush. Expanded to three under Pres. Clinton, then up to 4 under our last president.

Michelle doubled down on her assistants but just be thankful she didn't try to keep up with her husband and his apparent NEED for Czars (4 czars under Bush to 51 announced or planned under Obama)
