I tried to find the thread but got tired of looking, but someone here once stated about how ' wonderful' the VA system had been to them.

Well...whoever you were...you might want to call them throw your weight & influence around if they love you so much and have them call this kid!!

This is horrible.

" most veterans" are taken of......"MOST"....deplorable!!!

Maybe you should have read the whole article,.. his case has been resolved in his favor...

and in case you actually meet a vet that is having trouble with the VA, have them send me an e-mail I will help them...
I highly recommend the DAV in claims support... it is at no cost

Having dealt with the VA for a number of years, I can say that, the medical treatment is the upmost in caring, and I have never had a single problem...

While I have "heard" horror stories, concerning medical care, I have not known of one. that doesn't mean they don't exist...

as for the terrible treatment this soldier faced...

there are separate aspects of the VA, "VA disability compensation", being one of them...that needs work...

When a vet is being released from the service he goes through a medical board, and they "set" his disability rating.. at this point he must be sure his records and rating is accurate..if not it can be difficult to overcome..... unfortunately this is often the most overlooked part of the disability process..

the first part of applying at the VA is the paperwork.. it can be daunting.. and then if it is all in order,.. the soldier then goes to Doctors.. after they send off a report it is reviewed by a union civil servant... usually in a place such as Newark New Jersey..

It is in this last phase that crap like this happens... and where the horror stories are often created.. I say fire every union civil servant that screws up!!!! and these problems would be fewer and further between...

when there is no accountability at the level where the mistake was made,.. mistakes will continue...

you are right this was deplorable and horrific that the vet had to fight to get what he deserved... but that fight should have been at his service medical separation board, while he was still getting full pay and allowances... not with the VA..

and the VA employee should have been fired!
