Lieberman encouraged in Iraq:

Two-thirds (of Iraqis) say they are better off than they were under Saddam, and a resounding 82% are confident their lives in Iraq will be better a year from now than they are today. What a colossal mistake it would be for America's bipartisan political leadership to choose this moment in history to lose its will and, in the famous phrase, to seize defeat from the jaws of the coming victory.
the whole column is at; http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110007611

the whole problem with no support at home in the Iraqi conflict is the press. more notably, the liberal press. they hunt for the horrible stories to send home as a political stab at Bush, yet ignore all the good things we are accomplishing over there.

if you want true assesments of the war, get a soldiers view. they are telling the truth about how the kids and poor people are elated at our help. all this crap the liberal media puts on tv is nothing more than adding fuel to the insurgents and telling them we do not care.

also how they portray the huge, collasal camp out in Texas, I think the truth was 14 people were there.......to support Cindy Sheehan.

I say, we stop protecting the press over there, let the a-holes fend for themselves and see just how brash they are after that!!

I've read articles about the journalists over there - most are apparently cooped up in a hotel most of the time, afraid to go outdoors. While I can certainly understand their fear, it can hardly be expected that they really have a firm understanding of the situation, when the only time they get out is after something bad happens.

That reporters are afraid to get out of their hotel is the final truth about the mess Bush's incompetence has made of Iraq. I don't need to say another word (but I will).

My emphasis, of course.

During the past two years, civil military relations' specialists facilitated more than 2,000 projects; including water purification facilities, electrical power stations, educational infrastructure, medical facilities and administrative buildings.

being cooped up has more to do with the reporters being gutless than it is with Bush making a mess.

instead of going out and reporting, lets just stay in here and make up stuff.....it worked for Dan Rather !

Have you spoken to any of our diplomats in Baghdad? Do you know what the green zone is? Do you know what it is like outside the green zone and actually even trying to get past the checkpoints into the green zone or sleeping in housing without fortified roofs inside the green zone?

I have a number of friends who are government employees who spent a year or more in Iraq. One just returned. It is unthinkably dangerous, more than any place Americans have been assigned to or traveled to in my lifetime.

Funny, my son was over there for a year and said it wasn't a lot of fun, but not nearly as dangerous as other places he has been, right here in the good ol' USA. And he was in downtown Baghdad.

Maybe some of the reporters should interview some of the returning soldiers as they are the ones who are seeing whats going on day to day. If they ain't got the huevos to go check out the stories they are writing, maybe thay ought not be there.

The liberal press is ruining this country and I wouldn't believe them if I knew they were telling the truth, cuz I know they would be lying!

Check out the statistics for which is more dangerous, Detriot or Iraq. It sure ain't Iraq!

I agree there isn't enough of the soldier's perspective given to the coverage of the war. But not all the journalists are douchebags. Just check out what Robert Kaplan writes in the Atlantic - he's definitely soldier-oriented. Michael Kelly was also a pro-Iraq war reporter that actually died during the invasion.

What is bizarre is that I spent one evening last week talking to a State Department person who spent the last year in Iraq. I'm trying to figure out which international capitals you have been gathering information on or following for the last 30 years, or traveled to, to gather the information that backs your claim that Iraq is NOT the most dangerous DoS posting in our lifetime. I know people all over the world in our embassies and from what I have heard this is THE dreaded assignment. People literally cannot leave the Green Zone except under extreme guard.
Just off the top of my head... the Iranian embassy????? Carter administration ...remember? The ones that came home when Regan got in office.

Believe it or not the Iraqi civilians that are getting blown up every day are people too. To just consider the soldiers deaths to say how safe a place is is completely ridiculous.

Yes the civilians are casualties too, but how many have died in the last 2 years as compared to any year when Saddam was in power?

War is hell. Ask those combat vets who live around you. But sometimes you've got to go thru' hell to get to a better way of life.

What about our civilian casualties on 911?

What would you liberals have done, if you had been in power on 911, as President of the USA?

Seems to me I remember the congress voting to go to war in Iraq.

Guess you weren't here when I did the math that showed more Iraqis have died every day since George W. Bush invaded Iraq than every day when Saddam was in charge. Who's the criminal now?

War is bad. But the invasion of Iraq was unnecessary. There were no WMDs. Saddam posed no threat to this country.

What about our civilian casualties on 911?

What does 9-11 have to do with Iraq? Even President George W. Bush has said there's no proof that Saddam was involved in 9-11. So what's the connection?

What would you liberals have done, if you had been in power on 911, as President of the USA?

Not invaded Iraq. Afghanistan is where 9-11 was planned and staged. And today Osama Bin Laden is still free. The Bush Administration is trying to turn more of the Afghanistan war over the NATO!

Seems to me I remember the congress voting to go to war in Iraq.

Yes they did because the Bush Bunch gave them only the information they wanted them to see. They used information from a German source that the Germans had said was unreliable. They used information from a prisoner that was known to be lying. They gave that information to Congress and us without telling us it was unreliable. This is Bush's war, not Congress' war.

Do we still have troops in Bosnia? How about Korea? Who's wars were those? Seems to me we still have military in Germany and Japan and how long since we won WW!!?

right or wrong I would much rather be over there fighting terrorists, than fighting them here.

and, Reader the second.....if you are getting your info direct from the govt........that is about as trustworthy as the liberal press in my opinion.

war is tough. I think this country has taken its backbone and tossed it into the lake. I think Iraq would be over now if we had the backing like it was for WWII. But with jerks like Kerry and Kennedy in the congress, that will never happen
