Very interesting read:
This was the headline:Democrats Shaky on World Stage
A recent poll about the American presidential campaign shows Canadians feel closer to the Democrats by a 4-1 margin.
And that should be no suprise, give the Democratic candidates tend to sound more like Canadians.
Looking at Hillary, Obama and Edwards, one could envision these people as candidates for the leadership of the Liberal party. They'd just have to get citizenship and learn French.
But reality intrudes. Writing about the onerous role and responsibilites the U.S. has in the world, columnist Charles Krauthammer once wrote "America would rather be Canada. But Canada can only be Canada because it lives under the American umbrella."
Sometimes it seems as if the Americans would do better with two leaders--a "presidential external" and a "president internal". As things stand, the Canadian-sounding Democratic hopefuls would be good for "president internal."
Take their main foreign police prescription--the U.S. has to talk to leaders it doesn't like, to restore America's reputation in the world. That simplistic notion is supposed to remedy the ills for which they blame George Bush. Dialogue with international miscreants will solve everything.
A reaction to Vietnam helped elect Jimmy Carter who embodied that philosphy. What happened? The Soviets invaded Afghanistan and the Iranians took an embassy full of U.S. diplomats hostage. Hunger for change doesn't change the real world.
A U.S. president can't be a rag doll in a world of steel. There really is evil in the world. There really is malicious intent. To pretend otherwise would only be seen as a sign of weakness to exploited by American enemies.
The sad thing is if Democratic candidates actually believe simply talking with the baddies is a panacea, they are fools. If they know it's a crock and hope to attract the gullible, then they are liars. Either situation would render them unqualified.
In any event, the learning curve until reality sets in would not be easy for the world.

Interesting and excellent read.Pretty spot on too about 4-1 in fav of the Dems in Canada. If Obama was running in Canada,he'd be our next prime minister.Canada being a predominatly liberal thinking country, till you get to Red Neck Alta, then the writer of this artical hits the nail on the head to Albertas way of thinking.

At the moment Canada's Prime Minister is a Conservative with a minority government,so not a whole lot of say. Mostly just a figure head :?
