You gotta see the video as "real men" dont use traps!

i gotcha. we still catch them that way when we running crawfish traps. you just got to make sure you find the top of the shell and follow the scales the right way. then just grab above the neck and above the tail. but if they do get you, ive always heard a snapper wont let go until it hears thunder.

hey turtle man, what happens when you step right in front of or on its head before you get to the shell and identify the scale pattern  :? probably nothing major, just lose a toe or something, right?

We have what we call turtle hooks. with the muddy bottoms down here you can always tell when something is moving under the water becasue of air bubbles that come up. usually its one of two things 1. a turtle or 2 an alligator. if you hit the gator with the hook it will leave in a hurry. a turtle wont. you then use the turtle hook to find the front and let them bite down on it. believe me, youll know when they hit it. then just reach down for the shell and find the scales.

a snapping turtle will not reach out to grab anything, you have to hit their tonque to make them snap so if you are just walking by they wont even bother you.

Those exact same thoughts probably enter a Gators head when he sees some crazy cajun walking through a swamp chasing turtles! Mmmmmmm! Take-out! :cowboy:

Aka, aligator turtle. We got them here to. There good fryed to but I leave them alone. There kind of scarce. We eat a lot of softshell cooter. They got a long neck and will bite the she I t out of u. We got a place on a clear spring river. The water temp stays 72 degrees all year long. I was tryin to spear some bass years ago. (Highy ilegal) for a fish fry. We get these manatee up in there sometimes. I was wearin a mask and seen somethin comein fast about 20 yards up river. It kind of scard me a little thinkin it might be a big gator. Then it got right to me and stoped. A big snapper. We were kind of havein a stand off when here came a nother one and grabed the first one and the love makin comenced. U never seen such rolein around. All of that is true but I got a nother part I ad to it to make a good joke out of it. If u won't to hear the rest, pm me and I'll tell u.

thats the best way. they are easier to catch in your element than in theirs. :D
