I saw this coming awhile back,.. and am not in the least bit shocked..

most Americans link any mental illness to the violence portrayed by Hollywood,.. and despite factual evidence to show that very few soldiers with ptsd, depressions or other problems ever commit any violent crimes.. most feel they are violent.

many Americans can not separate the image Hollywood has portrayed of returning vets, from the combat vets that served honorably and are our neighbors, friends and often un-noticed heros.

once word gets out of this treatment.. few if any vets will seek help ,... especially the few who need it..

truly disgusting treatment for our soldiers

I believe that God didn't make any incomplete people.

I believe that all of us have both sides of every attribute/trait inside of us.

Beauty and Ugliness

Avarice and generosity.

Tenderness and the ability to kill.

And all the rest.

I also believe that once we acknowledge/own our many 'possibilites' that we can then choose which to control and which to enhance.

That being said---some of the most dangerous people I know are combat vets.

I think it was the Apache who understood that man could not return from killing man normal---that they needed to be 'debriefed' ---(not an apt word, perhaps---but somehow their soul had to be healed.

I agree with our govt that some of our returning vets are a danger to society. BUT--THEY CREATED THEM! Banning them from gun ownership is a ludicrous/cowardly way of dealing with it.

Earlier today, i posted on the 'Wall' topic. A bit of my personal journey:

"I was there, 68-69. 82nd Abn.

A horrific legacy. I live in sparsley populated area--which is good, as i don't like crowds.

Three of my vn vet friends have shot themselves.

Another--when i finally caught up with him in oregon--answered phone

"WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU WANT!!??" over and over and over.

Took me a half hour to convince him of who i was. Learned he was a recovering meth addict---altho our most common drug of choice was alcohol. V.A. has him on about a dozen meds for various issues.

My oldest and best childhood friend (173 combat medic, 12 mo's of lrrp team) helped me for a bit last yr---super equipment operator. But--he left me in a real bind--been diagnosed with ptsd and parnoid schizophenic----havn't seen him since--

Found my former CO's wife---the guy had gone on to finish career in military, then govt job---till some rare form of brain cancer did him in.

Many health issues are showing up in us. And some in our kids. Forty yrs ago, one of my best buds first kid was born w/o an anus. Cost about 80,000$ in various operations. Eventually was traced to agent orange, V.A. eventually paid up, after yrs. Lotta stress in that marriage--it failed.

Can't find most of my friends---used to stay in touch with many, but kinda went on an emotional and alcoholic 'walkabout' for a long time. CO's widow said most are dead anyhow."

I did not include that my buddy's little boy had so many scars that he wouldn't take his shirt off when swimming.

I didn't share that one of my buddys who killed himself killed somebody else first. With one of them thompson single shots. Always wondered what he was thinking, while he reloaded.

I didn't talk about the fact that another who shot himself had tried to get help from V. A.

I didn't tell about another one---a nighthawk gunner, still alive---who put a 20 guage up a sheriff's nostril (as far as it'd fit, anyhow)---he's doing pretty good, but wierd health issues

Or my buddy--this one a marine sniper--who was shot 5 times in one firefight, got a scar right next to his eye from anther one--fortunately--being a jarhead---his skull will evidently deflect a glancing bullet. This guy's been scared to take even one drink since he came back, v.a. furnish's him meds that stop his dreams.

The deal on the 'wall' said about 60% of the dead were 18. Kids. Think about that. Ones that made it were sent back to world---adios.

I never talked much for yrs--still don't. Was relating a little about it a couple yrs ago---my friend said "probably don't mean anything--but thanks for your service" I told him means quite a lot, actually---3rd tims somebodys said it~~in 40 yrs--

And don't nobody here go saying it now~~I volunteered for the draft, vol for V.N--I thought it was the right thing to do--

I despise old, draft dodging cowards who send kids to fight wars we got no business being in. I despise war profiteers, bankers who steal, politicians like hogs in a trough and religous hypocrites of every stripe and persuasion. I might someday have 'going postal' on my bucket list---but kids, women and decent folks would be purty darn safe~~an i pwobry aint got near enuf ammo for all the sumbitchs

just typing that would get you banned from buying ammo,,,

we have come to a point where those who admit and seek help are punished for it...

leaving most afraid or unwilling to seek help

which will just leave more vets to relive the shattered lives past vets lived in other conflicts that liberals didn't deem worthy...

Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq have now became wars that the liberals can only find shame in... despite the Honor and heroic service of the soldiers who fought in them..

You know, I am still wondering why the jeep commercial didn't rate higher at the super bowl..... They showed military people and thanked them for their service and at the end you saw a jeep.... (similar to the Paul Harvey- Dodge commercial).

People post all the time on facebook (or my friends do anyways) about thanks to the military and this is how government repays them....
take away their gun rights and load them up on meds that don't cure, but make them zombies.

Unfortunately, our government used the soldiers like guinea pigs spraying them with chemicals and trying out various vaccines, just to see what the results would be.

Psychiatrists who decide what emotional issue becomes a diagnosis in the DSM V psych manual and we sit back and allow it. Now, its to the point, that every human emotion has a psychiatric diagnosis.

Our soldiers go overseas as a NATO soldier and we should never be in another country more than 3 days.... flatten em out just like McArthur wanted to do in North Korea... but war is a profitmaker for the central bankers who own the major corporations. Lives lost mean nothing to them as it isn't their family over there. My niece was in Iraq and I'd be sitting quietly on my computer toodling around and the holy spirit would tell me that she was in grave danger (this happened about 3 times) and that I needed to pray for her and there isn't anything that will get you on your knees faster than when praying for a loved one. I would pray and ask the Lord to surround her with his angels and keep her safe and most of all Lord don't let the devil have her soul because she's not saved. She made it through Iraq and has all three medals. They wanted to send her to Afghanistan and she had a date of when to go by..... the holy spirit told me she wasn't coming back and I commenced praying and pleading the blood of Jesus over her soul because the devil can't have her soul and I started talking to family members to pray with me. Some of my family may have to go thru the tribulation before they get saved but the devil isn't getting their soul...... the group she would have went with to Afganistan was ambushed and everyone was killed or injured. When she got out of the marines, she hadn't been out 30 days and they recalled her. Fortunately they are letting her go to college right now and I hope they keep her state side because she has a hearing deficit because of Iraq.

Yes, Little Joe, the government created these people to hunt and kill other people and then want to take their rights away instead of helping them to overcome. Its totally wrong. Sometimes, it takes a "religious nut" that is a devoted prayer warrior to keep one alive as well. Hope you have a good day!

You know, on second thought, we need to turn the tables on Congress......

get an unbiased group of six psychiatrists who have not taken any money from the pharmaceutical companies .......

and have psych evaluations done to Congress..... NO ONE should be in the position of making decisions for this country when they have a psych issue....that would disqualify many of them and kick them out of office.

Just as Jesse Jackson, Jr. has admitted he has a bipolar disorder and I think that should have disqualified him in the first place.....

Littlejoe, I am going to say thanks for your service. I am not a veteran, but my families service can be traced as far back as the revolutionary war. It's ironic to me that our vetrans get the treatment they do and there is so little respect shown to our service men and women. Where in the hell do these people that protest at military funerals and burn flags and march in protest think there freedom to do so came from. What an ignorant disgrace, instead of treason it is freedom of speech and expression. If it weren't for men and women like yourself defending our nations freedoms, those people may not have any rights.
Thanks for your sacrifice littlejoe and all the other veterans on this board. Thanks to you, I have the freedom to raise my children to respect the foundation this country was built on and the people that protect that freedom.

the Vietnam Vet is one that I feel so proud of, and sorry for. you won a war that was lost on a politicians drawing board. had we turned loose the power of America, and let the generals do it the way it needed done, we would be in a different place right now.

a few weeks ago, a man I have known all my life, revealed to me he was a Vietnam vet. told me a few stories. those stories shook me to my core. he was on a team. they HALO into North Vietnam, had 6 targets to assassinate as they walked back to south Vietnam. He explained in detail the feeling of laying there and taking a mans life in silence, with bare hands or piano wire..... his question was is he a sinner for "doing his job"

I told him that God would forgive him of his sins, if he asked for forgiveness. he smiled, thanked me for listening, and said we will never speak of it again, and he should not have said anything now, except for he wanted me to know what my son in law may be getting into since he is a Marine.....I thanked him, and told him that God loves him.....his reply was simple." If God truly loves me, when I die, the nightmares will end, my greatest fear is an eternity of the nightmares I have"

still gives me goose bumps to think about our conversation.... any Vietnam Vet has my admiration, and thanks.

I have long said the vets who suffer the most tend to not talk about it..
they just deal with it in their own way...

taking away their rights is obscene..

they served and still pay the price..

Why make vets pay more to compensate for those who didn't and committed acts of violence and crime?

I am a veteran of the Korean War period, but I never went to Korea - instead I served my three years in Germany and stateside.

I know a lot of Vietnam veterans and I try to understand what they went through. The way we fought that war was not logical. Search and destroy in a jungle is ridiculous. When the NVA entered the war, Hanoi and Haiphong should have been primary targets.

On the way the vets were treated when they returned - a lasting disgrace on those who abused the military. They don't deserve the protection that they get just for being an American.

No doubt the WWII veterans were the "Greatest Generation" except for those Vietnam vets who suffered from the enemy and their own nation.

By the way, my son is a retired Marine and my grandson is just finishing up officer training in Quantico.
