JUST IN ...
Democrats, realizing the success of the President's "Cash For Clunkers" rebate program, have revamped a major portion of their National Health Care Plan.

President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and Sen. Reed are expected to make this major announcement at a joint news conference later this week. I have obtained an advanced copy of the proposal which is named....

"CASH FOR CODGERS" and it works like this... Couples wishing to access health care funds in order to pay for the delivery of a child will be required to turn in one old person. The amount the government grants them will be fixed according to a sliding scale. Older and more prescription dependent codgers will garner the highest amounts.

Special "Bonuses" will be paid for those submitting codgers in targeted groups, such as smokers, alcohol drinkers, persons 10 pounds over their government prescribed weight, and any member of the Republican Party.

Smaller bonuses will be given for codgers who consume beef, soda, fried foods, potato chips, lattes, whole milk, dairy products, bacon, Brussel sprouts, or Girl Scout Cookies.

All codgers will be rendered totally useless via toxic injection. This will insure that they are not secretly resold or their body parts harvested to keep other codgers in repair.

Remember you heard it here first...

To close to true to be funny!!!!!

Neil Cavuto talked to a Congressman today that tried to sell him
that if people ate more healthy, they wouldn't spend so much on
health care. He even mentioned that eating too much red meat
results in health problems!!!!!! I know lots of people who eat red
meat every day and they are fine...and OLD!!!

Part of this health care problem is the abysmal ignorance of elected officials and others about food nutrient content, coupled with (generally) an excessive eagerness to condemn food producers, from pasture to plate, in the case of beef.

They also seem to assume that people eat much more beef than is factual.

Most nutritionists recommend 5 to 7 ounces per day of beef or equivalent protein.

Consumption in the USA: averages TWO ounces!!!

Even before i read this post and saw the term "cash for codgers" I was seeing the comparison to the cashfor clunkers and the paragraph in the health bill about counciling the aged.

It may be irrelevant now that it has been taken fron the bill, but if you would have read between he lines, it was obvious that is was intended to discourage us old codgers from taking advantage of some medical prooedures to extend our life. This was one of the ways Obama and the Democrates were to lower health care costs.

When 2/3rds of the American people believe it is alright to kill unwanted babies, we are on a slippery slope to include the aged and the infirm as being among the unwanted and no longer useful.

Clarence- just for info- that section of the Senate Bill- was introduced by one of the most conservative members of the Senate- Senator Coburn (R) of Oklahoma- who is a Medical Doctor- and who when he introduced it said he was doing it at the request of a Doctors Group......
I watched the hearings when he introduced it- and it was meant only to clarify some questions about Living Wills and Advance Directives- give anyone who wanted counseling on them the ability to get it- and to make sure patients wishes came first...

But in the hysteria which gripped everything about the bill, with all the false info put out - it got turned into "Death Panels" (which I'm sure the Insurance Corporates loved to see happen  ) .....

I'm sure the Dems will drop it in a minute- because it was not part of their original bill....But it is kind of sadly comical- because the Repubs were complaining about not getting enough of their amendments in the bills-- but then when they finally do-- its their own side that comes back to eat their young....

Well Oldtimer, it may be just fear mongling but medical costs are going to continue to increase, that is a given. The government is going to pick up more and more of the costs, and will have to pay for more and more people. That is a given too. Some limits will need to be made. Where do you think they will place these limits? A panel of government appointed councilers are bound to try to convince the older people, and their families, that adding a few years or a few months to their life is not worthwhile.

Clarence-- I hope I'm long gone before the day gets that we bring our civilization to those lows...

And I wasn't trying to argue--just explaining the ironicalness of the actions that have occurred...Because of my chronic rheumatiod arthritis sometimes I can't sleep at all at nights-- so lots of times watch the replays of all the Congressional hearings during the middle of the night...The health care ones were very interesting (especially the Senate ones)...
I do have to say- a whole lot of work- by members of both parties have been put into them- and several members from both parties impressed me....
