Boy am I tired of winter. Thankfully as calving is about to start (have a handful) we have experience calving in these conditions.

Calving barn that can close in and heated with a radiant heater.

Have enough feed to get us through to plenty of as of yet inaccessible banked grass and swathgrazing and bunches.

It's really not that cold but some might call it hoar-able.

A little strategic snow distribution making way for a dry spot.

One of those new-bees.

Last years calving ground.

A good friend in deed when snow removal is the need.

you have way more snow than us per...we have lots of bare ground, but has been overcast for the past week and foggy-ish the last 2 days so not a lot of melting going on

It feels colder today than the whole month of March. I hope the snow stops as I am running out of places to put it, besides my basement . :???:

Looks like you have everything under control Per, good luck with your calving . :)

Good luck calving per. Gosh, I remember it snowing when we were
there. Wasn't that early in September?

As our old cowboy buddy used to say, "Nothin's forever."
But he also said, "Mother Nature ain't go no mercy for no one."

Looks like you have the weather handled as well as
possible. Again, good luck calving!

:D Winters like this ... are like childbirth! You forget and set yourself up to do it again.

That hoar frost sure is pretty though!

That's quite an adjustment to make from the last few years. The snow is reluctant to leave here also but it is sinking somewhat. It was 10 C for a while today.

Best of luck with calving per.

The deer have really made a huge mess of our hay. Dirty buggers.
I know they have to eat and usually we don't mind, but this year
it's pretty bad. Called the Game and Fish and they put up some
things that make lights and go off, and the deer are out there dancing
and having a party while they are making all the noise and light
show. :? :D

Of course they eat the very best; but they don't care so much
what they stand on top of. :x

Maybe more accurately re-evaluating how much feed gets put up in the stack yards. I kind of forgot how much they eat when you have to roll it out for them. The first year in my career that I have left a few hundred acres of barley bunches unused. When the sun comes out they will not be looking for straw, that is for sure.

So far we haven't hit our stride with calving with a couple sets of twins not making it. :( The bright side is that the culls are worth something again. Can't lose em if you don't have em.

Maybe if I could find a sweep in the back forty somewhere. I do have a Heston stack mover. Not sure where the time would come from. If I can hit them with the heavy harrows at 12 mph on a hot windy day there might be a chance of getting through them on a 2 pass system.

That was Transalta in 1983 we have 3 miles of it. Altalinks Fort Macleod to Calgary preferred route is parallel to it and are in the process of trying to make that happen. They couldn't pay me enough to be happy living anywhere near it. The powers that be say it is for the "Greater Good" except that they can't completely make you whole and the Good get to pay for it for the next 40 years all the while guaranteeing a 15% profit for Altalink who gets to own it when we get it payed for.....Don't get me started.
