Burgess Accepts President Obama’s Offer To Meet And Discuss Health Reform Bill

Washington, Aug 3 - Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-Texas) today sent a letter to President Obama accepting his invitation to “come over to the White House and go over line-by-line” the health care reform plan the President is pushing.

Last week President Obama held a health care town hall meeting in North Carolina, and offered the invitation to Members of Congress. President Obama stated, “When we come back in September, I will be available to answer any questions that members of Congress have. If they want to come over to the White House and go over line-by-line what's going on, I will be happy to do that.”

In his letter to President Obama, Burgess accepts the President’s invitation and states that, as a doctor, he has several concerns with the plan and also many ideas he believes he and the President can both agree on when it comes to health reform.

I need to bring this back up to the top...I think it is very important...I'm so glad Obama issued the invitation/challenge-- and that a Republican as level headed as Burgess accepted it...Now to get a few more off the partisan bandstand and back working for the people- not for who can scream the loudest....

This gives me hope in a return of the Republican party from the depths it had sank- altho I was impressed by the work- and actual efforts put out during the work/study groups and the committee hearings of Enzi, Coburn, and Hatch in the Senate too, working on this major problem...

The effort put out by those men does not reflect the majority of those now posting on this site--which I no longer see as Republicans- and the reason I've categorized them into the "rightwingernut crazy party" class- that are surviving on hysteria, innuendo, and conspiracy...About the only one from the right- that still shows the style of the Republican of old is Steve- and I'm not even sure if he belongs to a party...

But maybe- if a few of the Repubs- besides those named and Grassley can sit down with Obama- and all air out the differences- they can quell this rightwingernut crazy groups fearmongering- that seems more set on bringing about anarchy, than on getting something that the American public has been clamoring for for years ....

Like Obama said when they started on this "Nothing is Written in Stone"...

And like Senator Hatch said "Doing Nothing is NO longer an Option"....

Not a bad post but oldtimer is still taking jabs at people, with his labeling of those that disagree with him!

I agree with you 100% let us go and find him and kick his azz and show him what for.

this might be another way to get Health Care reform, they're trying it anyway.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius held a brief conference call with SEIU members this afternoon.

She hailed them as her “brothers and sisters” and urged them to show up at town hall meetings.

She gave the same stultifying mini-lecture about the sanctity of Medicare. “Change is not easy,” she droned. “We need to roll up our sleeves.”
